This is one of my very favorite blog posts of the year! One of my toxic traits is not taking the time to actually sit and enjoy projects once they are complete. I jump from one project to the next and I’m always thinking about the future, the end goal, and I have to remind myself just how far we’ve come in the past 12 months. Today, let’s dive straight into My Top DIY Projects of 2024! Some you may have even forgotten about!
My Top DIY Projects of 2024
At the start of every new year, I make a list of all the DIY projects and room makeovers I want to complete in the next 12 months. And at the end of the year I like to see just how many of those I ended up crossing off my list. More often than not, I don’t get to every room but instead end up tackling a few spaces that weren’t even on my radar. It’s often those spontaneous, unexpected room makeovers that end up being some of my favorites.
I never got around to writing my project goals for 2024 (don’t worry, I will be sharing my 2025 ones here soon!). But going into last year I hoped to tackle my younger son’s sports bedroom, my older son’s bold playful bedroom, our formal dining, redo our staircase railings, start our family room reno and add a few new updates to our courtyard. Let’s just say, thing year’s projects took a big turn!
Boys Sports Bedroom
I hate to show favorites but I’m just going to say it. This bedroom renovation was my all-time favorite project EVER. I have dreamt of designing a boys sports bedroom like this for as long as I can remember. I Pottery Barn inspired bedroom with classic timeless decor, a little industrial and a little moody. Everything about this room turned out perfectly. 10/10. I wouldn’t change a thing.
I kicked off this bedroom in January with the expectation that I would have everything wrapped up by the end of February. I am always bad with timelines. It ended taking up the first 6 months of the year with all of the different DIY projects. It was worth it.
This bedroom was a labor of love with the DIY Picture Frame Moulding, DIY Large Baseball Mural Install, DIY Built-In Bench with storage, DIY Brick Chimney, and all new decor and styling.
And I can’t forget this DIY Personalized Kids Gallery Wall! My favorite.
Home Theater Refresh
Our home theater is one of those places that the kids typically take over. It’s filled with video game marathons, teenagers and lots of games and toys. Honestly, I didn’t expect to tackle this room until way down the road. It’s a hidden room that most people don’t see and mainly used by the kids. But THIS is one of those spaces that snuck into my 2024 project list and I’m so glad it did. I took a break from my son’s sports bedroom to give this room a 1 week room makeover and it always amazes me how much you can change a space with new paint, new lights and adding a few new styling pieces.
This is what it looked like before! I want to paint the entire house, but all the other paint colors I can live with until I get to it. But this room, the greeny beige paint was not working for me and the light fixtures were still the originals. Every since I did the 1 week makeover in here, ALL of us use this space so much more. It feels complete now. Cozy. We gather for movie nights, sports games and hang outs. We love it in here.
Teenage Girl’s Bathroom Renovation
Spontaneous room renovation #2. I DID NOT have gutting my teenage daughter’s bathroom on my 2024 list. We have 5 bathrooms that need to be renovated down the road and just like our Washington Home, I planned on doing the bathrooms at the every end of our home renovation. But that’s the beauty of this job, I never know when a fun opportunity will pop up!
I had the opportunity to work with Home Depot on her bathroom renovation. We designed the bathroom to match her very minimalistic, feminine and sweet bedroom design.
This was her bathroom before. Original to the house, very dark, dated and in need of a big over haul.
I did end up keeping the tub since it was in perfect condition, but removed all the tile and replaced it with a ceramic antique glazed subway tile and updated the fixtures to a champagne gold. With such a neutral bathroom, I did want to add a little pop of something fun, so I added a very unexpected wallpaper on the ceiling!
Outdoor DIY Projects
Outdoor Kitchen Renovation
Every March – May is our prime time to tackle outdoor projects before it gets too hot! I tend to take a break from indoor projects so I can enjoy the perfect temps outside and check off a few of those exterior items.
We are super fortunate to already have a great outdoor kitchen space that was already here when we moved in. However, the appliances needed an upgrade and we wanted to install a smoker. We had our outdoor kitchen retrofitted to install a new Asado smoker, swapped out the grill to a new one and updated the outdoor fridge.
DIY Outdoor Bench
Our courtyard is one of my very favorite places in our entire house. This is the entry to our home. It already feels magical but I wanted to make it even cozier with additional greenery, more styling pieces and updated lighting.
This year I add tons of new artificial plants and my favorite concrete planters. I built this DIY Custom Outdoor Bench which ended up turning out better than I ever expected! I actually love it so much I want to build a second one or the other side.
We also updated all of the exterior lighting in our courtyard that is so perfect it feels like it should have been here all along.
DIY Large Planter Box
My vision for our courtyard is to create this enchanting modern French inspired garden. This little corner was begging for something unique and charming. I wanted to add something to fill the dead space on the exterior. I tried a bench there bit it was too small, so I decided to build my own DIY Large Planter Box .
I still have one missing piece to this space that just arrived before the holidays. So stay tune!
Dream Partnerships From This Year!
While these weren’t huge room renovations, I wanted to highlight a few very special styling projects I worked on this year! Since I started my job, I have had a few big goals for myself and I often don’t share those accomplishments when they happen. But I’m going to share a few of them this year! I’ve had a list of ‘dream brands’ to work with and this year I had the opportunity to work with not only one but TWO of those them!
In the spring, I was approached by TARGET to create content for their social media channels to promote their new line of pool toys and decor. All of the content was shared on Target’s channels, you can see how it all turned out here!
This winter I worked with POTTERY BARN TEEN by promoting their new winter bedding and decor. This was a very special project, not only working with a brand that I have loved since I was little but being able to create a magical space for my daughter was the icing on the top!
Wrapping Up 2024
There were so many small styling projects in between all the DIY’s too! You can always go back and browse them on my home page. Thanks for being here for all of the BIG room renovations to the small ones. You can also follow on Instagram where I share real-time updates on everything!
I’m kicking off 2025 projects with some really fun ones!
