Every once in a while there is a project I complete that I love so much, that I want to do it on repeat! If you’ve been around, you might remember the DIY Black and White Hallway Gallery Wall that I did in our Washington Home. That was one of my fav projects (and yours too!) so I decided to recreate it in my son’s room… with a twist! I realize I haven’t shared any updates on my son’s sports bedroom yet, I’ve been mainly sharing in-progress videos on Instagram (you can see the paint reveal here). Today, I’m sharing the first completed design project in here, the Black and White Kids Portrait Wall.
Black And White Kids Portrait Wall
When planning the design for this room I knew I wanted to do a sports themed gallery wall on this side of the room! I planned the spacing of the picture frame moulding so it would be perfect for a photo in each box. After skim coating the walls in the entire bedroom, installing the moulding and then painting it Sherwin Williams Web Gray. It’s the perfect rich gray color with a hint of blue undertones. It’s absolutely perfect.

Creating Your Own Large Portrait Wall
I used the IKEA Ribba frames for our other gallery wall, and those were great. But I found these 20 X 28″ Black Matted Frames on Amazon and I loved them too. They are a slightly thiner profile.
I wanted to add a personal touch to my son’s bedroom, so I took photos of him playing his favorite sports, turned them into black and white prints and had them printed through mPix. They were the only place I could find that had a picture size similar to the frame opening. Shutterfly didn’t.
I was super fortunate to already have lots of awesome pics of him playing sports from other parents, but I also took a few of my own simply in our backyard and out on the field.
Wireless Art Lights
Ok. We are going to need to chat about these Wireless Gold Art Lights from Amazon! I have bought several different wireless art lights for other projects and these are BY FAR my favorite. My other ones often have a plastic finish to them and feel a little cheap. These DO NOT. These are gorgeous. I could not be more impressed with these lights.
I installed mine directly center in the box frame and measure so the frame would be dead center. I also think with taller ceilings like ours, you could hang them slightly lower than center.
Tips For Hanging Pictures
I used my painters tape method to hang the frames. When I do this, I put a piece of painter’s tape on the wall, make sure the tape is level using my leveler and then I know exactly where to put my nails or screws. It’s an easy way to hang a level picture.
I just love how classic this looks!
I am really happy with how this project turned out! It adds a personal touch to his bedroom and I love seeing his sports photos displayed in our home! Far too often they get tucked away and I never see them again. Or they stay in my icloud forever.
Also! Wearing my fav sweater tank from Amazon along with these comfy soft loafers! They come in tons of colors!
