Home Accent Essential: Wall Sconces

When people think of ‘home accents’, their first thoughts are usually throw pillows and/or throw blankets… but home accents can be so much more! Personally, I’m a strong believer that wall sconces (interior and exterior) can give your home that extra style boost you’re looking for.

Sconces are the perfect fixtures to use for accent lighting in various spaces of your home, whether it be hallways, bathrooms, replacing bedside table lamps, or even your front porch. When styling your wall sconces, centering a decorative mirror or piece of artwork creates a feature vignette that will take your space’s design to the next level. Your stylistic personality shouldn’t be contained to only the interior of your home, exterior wall sconces allow you to personalize your home and provide a beautiful nighttime glow.

In my daughter’s vintage teen bedroom, I opted for delicate and unique wall sconces instead of bedside lamps.

In our previous kitchen, I added accent lighting in our black and white kitchen, to use as lighting over the open shelving and also dim lighting at night.

While you’re planning out the design of a room in your home, and you can’t decide on what lighting to choose, wall sconces are a great choice to consider. They provide great lighting without taking up any of your floor or surface space, which makes them a great alternative for smaller rooms, entryways, and preventing a jumbled mess of cords on your tables.

The exterior of your home is like the smile you give a stranger when you make random eye contact with them while walking through the mall. You want to seem inviting and show off a bit of personality, and that’s exactly what wall sconces can do for the outside of your home. Plug-In Wall Sconces

Plug-in wall sconces are an unsung hero of the wall sconce variety because not many people know about them and they are a great non-permanent option. If you’re in a rental property or like to change your home design frequently, they are the perfect option to express your style without 100% committing to a specific fixture in your home. Plug-in sconces are also great for taking a sconce fixture/style for a “test run” before installing the real deal in your home.
