Vintage Modern Home Theater Decor

Nothing feels better than a 1 week room makeover! While most of my major renovations are taking months these days, doing a quick room refresh in 7 days feels AMAZING. I’m waiting on the final furniture to come in for my son’s baseball bedroom, so I thought I’d give our home theater a quick refresh. These types of projects are always proof that it doesn’t take much to completely transform a space. A gallon of paint, new lights and some fresh decor and we now have a brand new space that feels so much more like us. I’m giving you a tour of the vintage modern home theater decor I chose and all the before and after pics!

We have much larger renovation plans for this space and the game room right next to it; that won’t happen for a few years down the road. So my goal for this space was to freshen it up on a budget.

Before Space

Here is what the space looked like when we moved in! We had purchased the sofa from the previous owner since it fit the space so well and we literally moved here with almost zero furniture. And you know what? It just so happens to be one of the most comfortable couches ever and even great to sleep on!

Aside from wanting to keep the section for now, the green walls and dated sconces needed to go asap. Otherwise, I knew it had great bones and it wouldn’t take much to transform it.

And here is what it looks like after 1 week! Gah! Can you even believe it?! It’s now a cozy vintage modern home theater room that we absolutely LOVE. I painted the walls Sherwin Williams Black Magic. It’s the same color I used in our home office and also the ceilings in our outdoor spaces. The columns were already a semi-gloss black color (I don’t know what it is), but thankfully the black magic looked great next to it.

Changing the paint color alone completely changed the entire feeling in room.

The other big change was wapping out the dated wall sconces with this budget friendly option. I found these gold modern wall sconces on Amazon. I’ll be honest, the finish up close on them is not “high end”. But I love the style of them, especially for the price (they come in a pack of 2). I think they are great as an affordable option. They now pop against the black and give this room a much more modern look.

The black nesting tables are from our Washington Family Room, they are out of stock but here is a list of similar ones! But the chunky loop rug is new and it is SO soft.

Affordable Neutral Throw Pillows

Pillows were important in here for a few reasons. 1) I wanted to make it an extra cozy movie space but 2) it was the perfect place to add a pop of pattern and also mix a few different textures that would bring the whole space together.

I ended up purchasing a TON off of Amazon and these are the ones I went with! I loved how these Black & Cream Patterned Pillows bring a pop of pattern to the space (they are also amazing quality for the price!), the Cream Faux Fur Pillows add a soft texture and the Brown Faux Leather Pillows add a different texture but also pull a little color in from the movie posters.

These Black Grid Pillows are also a fav (I might even use them in my son’s bedroom too!). They are double sided with cream grid on the back. I love the material, it’s not cheap feeling at all. You can view all my top Amazon Pillow Choices here.

Vintage Movie Posters

Now let’s talk about the show stopper in the room. These Vintage Modern Movie Posters!!!! I went on a hunt for unique movie posters for this room. I didn’t want just standard posters, but something more modern and that felt like art. I searched and searched and ended up finding this artist on Etsy who had TONS of original movie poster art. I fell in love with the style of these movie posters.

I had them printed at Staples and then put them in these Black Poster Frames. I picked all our favorite, classic movies that had meaning or memories for us (and also took color into consideration!).

This space feels complete now. It feels like an intentional, cozy and updated space. It truly is true, that once a space is finished, we spend so much more time in it! The kids love hanging out in here even more. It’s just comfortable now.
