I look back in the last 12 months and think about how much my relationship with my house has changed. It’s always interesting to me how you really need to get to know a house before you can truly decorate it. The way the light hits each room at different times of the day, what colors work well with the lighting in the space, what style just fits. I think it’s taken me over a year to truly feel like I’m getting it.
Last year was our first Christmas in this house and I remember trying to decorate what felt like a foreign space. I was trying to use a little more traditional elements to go with the architecture of the home, and bring in a few pops of color and more modern elements. I never felt like it was a total hit. Festive yes, our style? Maybe not. This year I took a totally different approach and I’m going to walk you through this neutral, vintage glam Christmas tree and living room.
Neutral Vintage Glam Christmas Tree
This year I decided to embrace the brown tones in the space, the chocolate beams, vintage inspired wallpaper on the ceilings and the gorgeous ornate chandeliers. These were all in the house when we purchased it. I’m pretty sure I have thought about what I want to do in this room every day since we moved in, what do I want to keep? How will I change it to make it feel more like us but also keep the unique characteristics? But that is a long ways down the road.
Instead of thinking about what I want I want it to look like in the future, I decided to embrace what was here and create a vintage glam Christmas display. Focusing on bringing on more rich brown tones, pops of antique gold, vintage ornaments and delicate accessories. It’s a little different for me, but I really love how it feels like it just goes with the space.
Chocolate Brown & Antique Gold Christmas Decor
The funny thing is, this is probably the most simple Christmas tree I’ve ever decorated. No garland or fillers, just simple vintage inspired ornaments, simple satin ribbon ties and twinkle lights. That’s it. And somehow it just feels perfectly elegant and just enough.
Neutral Vintage Christmas Mantel Decor
I mirrored the Christmas tree decor on the mantel. Using a mixture of my very favorite Norfolk Garland that is SO realistic and stunning, and a few different stems of fillers to give it a fuller more lush look. I draped my DIY Vintage Bell garland on top of it and added battery operated lights!
The stockings I made for my family several years ago and they will always be special to our family.
Ok let’s talk about this TRAY. This is probably my favorite decor piece I have EVER purchased off Amazon! I cannot believe the quality. These trays come in a set of two, they are very heavy and sturdy. They 100% look like a high end piece of decor. I added Flameless Candles on mine along with a little greenery.
On the mantel shelf, I layered two different styles of mirrors. Mixing both a more modern Black Arch Mirror with a smaller ornate vintage inspired mirror. I got mine at Hobby Lobby for a great deal, but it’s super similar to the famous Anthro mirror. The last piece is adding a textural element with this Vintage Sketch Art .
Living Room Furniture
The furniture in this space brings in a more contemporary modern style to the space and makes it feel a little more current. The clean lines of the White Modular Sofa and Pismo Coffee Table add a more modern touch to the space. I personally love mixing different decor styles together, like vintage pieces with modern furniture. It’s all about finding the right balance.
The Brown Ottomans are a new addition in here. I wanted to add a few extra pieces in here. While I think they tie in all the vintage brown tones I am a tad unsure of them! But this Faux Fur Throw Blanket is so luxe! I love the glam it brings in here.
Chocolate Brown and Gold Christmas Decor
I can’t wait to spend Christmas morning here with the family. Enjoying the coziness of the space and the memories that will be made.
