I feel like it has been forever since I’ve done a major room reveal (well, because it has) and I’m so so excited to show you all my first one of the year! (And it’s proof that I’m actually taking my word of the year seriously!) Our downstairs half-bath was one of the last rooms in our home that needed to be updated and all it took was getting a new faucet to jump start the project.
And now, I have a Modern Farmhouse Bathroom that I just love!
Modern Farmhouse Bathroom Reveal
WARNING: This post is super picture heavy! I’ll share a few thoughts but I’ll mostly let you enjoy the pics, because let’s face it, that’s the best part. AND you must keep scrolling to see the actual before and after pictures because they are really good :)
Faux Concrete Bathroom Countertops
Like most of our room makeovers, I’m always trying to work on a budget and I try to update what I have versus ripping anything out. Which is why I put in faux concrete countertops right over our existing laminate ones and painted the existing vanity. It was an easy and inexpensive solution.
For those of you wondering about a tutorial on the countertops, you can get the full tutorial here.

And here is the beautiful Moen faucet that started all of this! You can’t just update one thing can you? It was truly a domino effect. We went to install the faucet and found that it was actually too big for our existing sink. So we bought a new sink, installed the faucet and then realized the sink was the wrong shape for the vanity….. yup that’s how it went. So we ended up carving out the hole and making the new sink work.
Modern Farmhouse Bathroom Vanity
My two main sources of inspiration for this bathroom was this one from HGTV Rate My Space and this one from Route 2 Rural. Both had the black round mirrors that I love.
This succulent planter was inspired by Not Just A Housewife’s Garden Wall Planter. I made a mini version for the bathroom and love the character it brings to the room.
DIY Bathroom Shelving
You’ll notice some familiar pieces as we move in this direction. My DIY Rustic Shelves and my DIY Bathroom Art.

I found this wooden box at my local Fred Meyer, it was the perfect size and I love that it has three compartments. And yes, I just wrapped my tissue box in brown paper so it would coordinate with the space :)

Because every bathroom needs some reading material.
And as we move to the back wall, this is definitely one of my favorite things about the space. I just couldn’t help myself, I had to put in another wood plank wall (see my first one here). The entire back wall is such a statement and I topped it off with a DIY Towel Rack made from curtain rod holders and a piece of driftwood from my grandparent’s beach cabin.

I eventually want to put a pic of the kids in here but for now one of our wedding pictures will do :)
Before and Afters
It really is amazing what a little paint and a few updated fixtures can do! Don’t you love the before? Yes, it was just a blank wall before this all started.
Changing out the light fixture was another interesting experience. When I took down the old light I discovered that the electrical box was NOT centered with the vanity. Who does that? And since I wanted to put in a single light, this became a huge problem. So thankfully one of our good friends is an electrician and he graciously moved the entire box for me in exchange for dinner. Problem solved.

I love this. Everything is so beautiful I love the difference. The counter is beautiful, is it wood or something else? We have these ugly counters in the bathrooms with built in shell shaped sinks, I would definitely love to do something like your counters here. And that is a very cool faucet!
looks absolutely amazing. Love it! Countertops like that have been on my DIY list for a while. Just can’t make up my mind if I want a vessel sink or one like yours
I lOVE it Taryn! Did you put the concrete over your laminate countertops because I just showed my husband a bunch of pictures trying to get him to let me do this in our kitchen! : ) Maybe I’ll try it your way and test it out in the bathroom to convince him. hehe. Love that plank wall! Everything is just perfection!
Beautiful transformation Taryn!! love every last detail!

Thank you! The wall color is called Tempered Gray by Valspar.
I am dying over those counter tops! Cannot wait until you have the tutorial done.

Looks great, Taryn! Love this so much, what a difference!
Where did you find the outlet cover? I have that size and had to repaint existing because we couldn’t find one!
I absolutely love the idea of concrete counters! Love this so very much, I have a bathroom just like it and this gives me some awesome inspiration!
THANKS!
We want to do our own concrete counter tops in the bathroom as well. Right now we have these old purple tinted ones in the guest bath. I look forward to seeing your tutorial.
What a transformation! I love this so much. Especially the driftwood towel bar–gorgeous. Can I make a suggestion? There seems to be a lot of empty space between the sink and the mirror…I’d recommend getting one a little larger. Great job!
I totally agree with you! But we don’t live in that house anymore so I’ll leave it up to the new owners to play around with it :)
I have that exact vanity in a small bathroom off the pool; I need that tutorial for the concrete countertops asap, please! Great job inspiring me to work on this room.
