First room renovation of 2026?! Let’s consider this the phase 1 reveal of our family room reveal! The room where we spend the majority of our time, the space where we entertain guests the most and the space that has so much potential. For this room, I wanted to take advantage of the taller ceilings, the large floor plan and the blank slate. I want it to feel warm & cozy, yet luxurious and I think we are well on our way there. Over the years, I’ve been using second hand pieces, a few items I brought with us from Washington and it’s turned into a collection of various neutral items. But it’s time to polish it up, design it with intention and make it feel complete.
Modern Transitional Family Room Decor

During the staircase renovation, we had our walls skim coated to a level 5 finished (perfectly smooth) and had it painted in a custom version of Sherwin Williams Creamy. This alone gave the room a big facelift. It immediately felt so much brighter, fresher and newer. I still love the neutral look that was happening in here before, but wanted to make it feel more intentional and polished.
Family Room Before

This was how the space looked when we first moved in 3 years ago. We purchased sectional from the previous owners to use as temporary seating until we tackled this room, never thought it would be this many years later! But it served it’s purpose well.
The Perfect Family Sectional

First things first, the most important item was finding a sectional that was both family friendly and pet friendly! After a lot of research, I ended up going with the 5-Seat Modular Corner Sectional from 7th Avenue Co. You can see more on the assembly process here. We have the color “oatmeal beige” and ordered it in the extra deep seat option for ultimate comfort. It’s the perfect color, still light and bright but with a lot of warmth.
The statement glass chandelier was the other big change in here! We don’t use the fan too often (only in the summers) and I wanted to take advantage of the tall ceilings in this space. I needed a large chandelier and this one is 48″ and is the perfect piece. It adds so much elegance and light to the room.

We’ve been enjoying this sectional for a few months now and we all love it. It’s incredibly comfortable, you just sink into it (in the best way). I love how their sofas are modular, so you can customize your seating to fit your exact space and make the most of it. Even though it’s modular, it does have easy connectors to secure the seats together so they don’t move!
I now love the view from our dining room that looks into the family room. The whole look is coming together.
Neutral Modern Area Rug

The new rug was very needed in here! I went with this cream and black rug, subtle modern pattern that can go with a lot of different styles. It’s very soft and comfortable to walk on, everyone comments about it! And don’t forget a quality rug pad, it makes a huge difference and protects your floors. I have them under all our rugs.
Living Room Accent Chairs

I love this angle looking into the formal living room (which I’ll be tackling soon!). The arched openings are everything. Earlier this year we added these gorgeous modern leather accent chairs. I am obsessed. The leather is so soft, large seats and you just sink into them. We desperately needed the extra seating and they are a great contrast with the neutral sectional.

I love this view of the room, you can see how all the color tones work together, the soft neutrals, the brown leather, black accents and wood details. When I’m putting together a space, I’m always looking at how I can pull all the pieces together to complete the final look. It’s all about balance.
Coffee Table Decor

I get asked about this large scale coffee table all the time and it’s actually my most prized Facebook Marketplace find to date! It’s an older Restoration Hardware table that’s not sold anymore. It’s 67″ and HEAVY and I got it for $250! It’s the perfect sturdy coffee table for the family, indestructible and the kids can even stand on it!

Styling coffee tables doesn’t have to be hard, I always prefer a more minimalistic look which makes it even easier. A few stacked coffee table books (See some of my favorites here) and decorative bowls are an easy win.
Vintage Gallery Wall

This back wall was a big challenge and design dilemma! It has a 4 prong light switch smack in the middle of the wall, making it very challenging to decorate around. I couldn’t hang artwork or a mirror, so I decided to camouflage the switch by building a vintage inspired eclectic gallery wall around it.

I knew the exact style I wanted for the gallery wall but had to find the right prints! I can always find what I’m looking for on Etsy. I searched for a mixture of modern and old European style prints. Bringing all the styles of the room together. I download them for a few dollars and then print them at Staples or Fedex. I’m linking them for you here!
Phase 2: Custom Media Center

I am loving how everything is coming together in here! But we have one more final step in here. Next step is to build a custom built-in media center onto this wall. Large scale huge impact. For now, I put two of these consoles table together to create one long tv console table.
