The laundry room is one of the spaces hardly anyone sees but me, it isn’t a top priority space that guests will see, but this makeover sure makes me happy! And that’s what counts right? Our laundry room is right off our mudroom hallway as you come in from the garage and right across from the main bathroom downstairs so it was important to renovate it at some point. After doing several large scale renovations over the last year, I wanted to take on a small space. Let’s tour our now very charming, Vintage European Laundry Room Design.

Before Laundry Room

Our laundry room had just been updated right before we bought the house four years ago. New flooring, cabinets, counter tops and a full wall backsplash. Everything was in perfect condition, there was no need to rip anything out, so I decided to work the design around the existing finishes.
Fresh Moody Paint Color

One of the biggest changes and easiest one, was repainting the whole space! I DID skim coat the walls to smooth out the heavy texture, first. I also extended the cabinets to the ceiling to fill the awkward space above them. Then I color drenched the whole space in Benjamin Moore Cromwall Gray. It’s a very warm moody color, that is filled with green, brown, taupe and very subtle gray tones. It really changes tones depending on the lighting and time of day.

When color drenching a room, I always do flat on the walls and satin on the trim and cabinets. I used my paint sprayer on the cabinet doors for a perfectly smooth finish.
On the ceiling, I went for a very rustic moody look in here. I wanted to add some texture and decided to install this tongue and groove Plank Ceiling. To get this color, I did three coats of stain 1) Minwax Special Walnut 2) Minwax Black 3) Minwax Espresso.
Peek-A-Boo Wall Mural

With a full color drenched room, I felt like I needed to break up with solid color and add in a pattern. I decided to install a beautiful vintage landscape wall mural behind the washer and dryer for a little unexpected pop. Something so simple that added so much to the room!
Also, let’s discuss the new washer and dryer real quick. I had my heart set on a matte black washer and dryer set. After a lot of feedback from y’all, I went with this set of LG washer and dryer. I love them! However, the glass does collect a ton of dust and lint. I feel like I wipe them off every time I’m in laundry room and they look dusty two seconds later. But I love the look of them and they are functioning perfectly.
Custom Clothes Drying Rack

The Travertine Subway Tile Backsplash and granite countertops were already installed when we moved in. I believe they were newly installed and I felt like I could work with them! One of the main things missing in this room was a drying rack. I air dry a lot clothes and have been laying them all over my washer/dryer and counters for four years! This was the perfect blank wall to create a custom DIY drying rack that would add a place for displaying antique finds and also be practical.

On top of the shelf, I added the same Brass Shelf Railings that I used in my son’s bedroom. You can order them on Etsy and customize your sizing. They are gorgeous. For the rack, I ended up using two Brass Drying Rods with crystal accents and of course Gold Hangers to polish it off.

I absolutely love how functional this is and adds so much charm. And these prints… how cute is the Vintage Dog Art and Vintage Striped Art. Amazing Target finds.

The right accents are always what tie the whole space together. Love this Scallop Soap Tray and Fav Hand Soap that I put around the house. Had to add these little Laundry Brushes.

With the very vintage antique style in this room, it became the perfect place to display a lot of family heirlooms that I’ve saved over the years. I framed a piece of artwork my 104 year old grandma painted back in 1936. And all the wood bird carvings were done by my grandpa.

I really love how this entire laundry room turned out. A small space that was very very beige is now full of character, functionality and
