Modern Farmhouse Small Kitchen Remodel

Thanks For Sharing!

Hello, hello! I’ll save the chit chat and dive right in today.  It’s been over a year since I shared my Kitchen Inspiration Post and started updating our small, builders grade kitchen. After a lot of hard work and late nights I’m so excited to finally share with all of you my 100% DIY Small Kitchen Remodel with a Modern Farmhouse Style.

Before we begin, just a few quick notes. I’m not going to narrate too much today (ok maybe just a little), instead I’ll just let you enjoy the pics. Keep scrolling for a complete shopping guide and before and after pics. I’ll also be sharing tons of tutorials in the next few weeks and I’ll include links to them below as they are posted. Ok now let’s not waste any more time…

Small Kitchen Remodel – DIY Concrete Countertops

I absolutely love how our DIY concrete countertops turned out. They gave this kitchen the industrial chic look I wanted and they only cost me about $200 for the entire kitchen! Adding the stained wood window sill also made a huge impact for a small price.

White Kitchen Makeover with modern farmhouse design - great before and after pics of what you can do with a small space.

One of my biggest debates during the remodel process was the subway tile backsplash (Imperial Bianco by The Tile Shop). I couldn’t decide if I wanted to do the entire all or just an 18″ backsplash. I went back and forth more times that I want to admit and I’m so glad I went with the entire wall. I absolutely love it and it really completed the look for the kitchen.

I loved how my DIY Bathroom Shelves turned out so I decided to do them again in the kitchen.

Small Kitchen Remodel – Faux Wood Tile

White Kitchen Makeover with modern farmhouse design - great before and after pics of what you can do with a small space.

The flooring was by far the biggest transformation. Going from vinyl flooring that was starting to rip up to this gorgeous Faux Wood Tile from The Tile Shop made such a huge difference.

Small Kitchen Remodel – Maximizing Space

White Kitchen Makeover with modern farmhouse design - great before and after pics of what you can do with a small space.

Remodeling this kitchen was the first priority but maximizing space was a close second. Our kitchen is really tiny and without a lot of storage so I tried to use every ounce of space including the ends of the cabinets.

It's all in the details...

Small Kitchen Remodel – Counter Depth Refrigerators

White Kitchen Makeover with modern farmhouse design - great before and after pics of what you can do with a small space.

Did you know they make counter depth refrigerators? This was my first time remodeling a kitchen and learning about appliances and I was so happy to find that they make fridges that match the line of the cabinets. They are harder to find but I’m glad I was patient in my search because our new fridge gave me an extra 3″ and that is A LOT for my tiny kitchen.

Small Kitchen Remodel – Gotta Have the Chalkboard

White Kitchen Makeover with modern farmhouse design - great before and after pics of what you can do with a small space.

I love having a chalkboard wall in the kitchen. Miss E loves drawing on it while I make dinner. When I came across the vintage sign in the Silhouette Store I thought it was perfect for this space. It’s a good reminder for me to document all those little drawings and special moments with my kids and remember this crazy time in life.

And my head has been spinning a bit in my search. Seems like every fridge has completely different dimensions! Crazy! Can I ask what brand & style the one you chose is? And perhaps a link? I really like how it looks.

Hi Lorene! I actually don’t have the tutorial up yet, but I could definitely do one soon! We only lived in that house for a few months after we redid the kitchen but it seemed to hold up just find. I put several coats of sealer on it and caulked around the edges to prevent moisture from getting in.

Hi! We actually don’t live in that house anymore. I had the countertops for about 6 months before we moved (in the kitchen) and we used the bathroom ones for about a year. I thought they both held up great. You just have to be cautious of oil spills as they will stain.
