I always joke with friends that it takes me about a year to complete a room. I would love for that to be an exaggeration, but it typically ends up being true! Right around the one year mark I get ‘the itch’ and I take a big dive and finish it up in a few weeks. And then I scratch my head and wonder why it took me so long to do it! Can any of you relate?
Well… it’s been just about a year since we moved all of the baby furniture out of the my middle son’s room and put it in the new nursery, so it’s about time I finish up his big boy room and make it his little retreat. So today, I’m talking all about the plans I have for the space and a fun new partnership with Carpet One Floor & Home®.
Here is what his rustic nursery looked liked soon after we moved into the house. You can click the link to see more of the space when it was all put together. Then baby #3 came along and I moved out all the furniture and rugs and now it looks like this….
…. a super sad room that has a lot of place holder items and empty space. SO let’s chat about plans I have for this room to make it AMAZING!
My First priority is to create a little reading corner. I want to add a cozy chair and pillows and finish off this corner.
Next, let’s talk window treatment. Sadly, my son decided to use his curtains as a zip line and broke the curtain rod. So that is definitely on the list of things that needs to be fixed! I want a chunkier black rod and new curtains. Chevron was super trendy a few years ago, now it’s time for a change!
The right side of the room will remain pretty much the same. I still love the industrial shelves, and the locker and the DIY dresser I did a few months ago. I’ll just change up the styling on the shelves, the little birdie and owl just aren’t his thing ;)
I did get him the coolest big boy bed! I love the industrial farmhouse look and how it makes a big impact in the room. The bedding is OK, I’m not in love with it, so we will see how things turn out once the whole room is put together!
And the wood striped wall, THAT is definitely staying!
Now onto the floors. I think flooring actually makes the biggest impact in a room. It really sets the tone for the entire space. I’m not in love with our current carpet, it is a very basic builder grade carpet. The color is a little too beige for me and they aren’t very soft. So it’s time to mix things up.
We aren’t ready to replace the flooring in our entire home, so I decided to get a full room area rug for this room to completely transform the look.
I visited my local Carpet One Floor & Home® store and checked out a lot of different carpet options for this room. I knew I wanted a nice sleek loop style rug to go with my more modern style and the Relax, it’s…Lees brand carpet has tons of options. I love that Lees repels spills to make cleanup quick and easy, which is really important in a three year old boy’s room!
I’m a neutral girl and I love my gray tones and these were the perfect options. I love the tone of these grays, they are a little warmer and perfect for our home.
I was really drawn to these darker grey options. While darker colors typically make a room feel smaller, but it could also make a really big impact and change the look of the entire room. So which color did I choose? You will have to wait and find out!
I’m ready to take his room from unfinished to dream room and I’ve got a few weeks to do it! I’m excited to be working with Carpet One Floor & Home® on the makeover and participating in the “Love it with Lees” Room Makeover Contest. I’ll be posting the full room makeover in a few weeks and you will have the opportunity to vote for my room and enter to win your own $500 Homegoods gift card! So be sure to be on the look out for the reveal!

I too will be looking forward to seeing final reveal of big boy’s room, 3 already? If it’s any comfort my two boys (16 months apart) used to do diving stunts off top bunk. It’s a miracle I wasn’t totally gray by 40.
Knowing you and your decorating talents boy’s room will be spectacular. Good idea getting huskier curtain rod, maybe stainless steel?
Had to take youngest son to emergency more times than all 4 kids together and he kept it up into early adulthood. Has mellowed a lot since those days, big breath and sigh lol.
Will be anxiously waiting for reveal. Love his bed.

That bed is amazing! I love your vision for the room. We need new flooring for our entire home….everything! I can’t wait to take the plunge so I’ll definitely check out what Carpet One Floor & Home has to offer. I want to be sure we go with quality so I’m adding this to my list.
p.s. The broken curtain rod….welcome to my world. ;) I have three sons and even though the youngest is 11 all three think the house is a giant wrestling ring.
