On the couch, in a basket, on the bed, propped up in a cozy corner… whether they are practical or not, we all NEED more throw pillows in our life! How many do you have around the house? Because I don’t even want to tell you how many I have. We’ve all seen the memes of husbands wondering why their wives have so many pillows and they are all true. BUT, we NEED them. And every season too :) As we approach a new season, one the easiest ways to give your home a good refresh is to swap out your throw pillows. For me, that often means putting covers over the previous season to help save some money! Today, I’m sharing some of my current fav Neutral Throw Pillows. All of these would make great ones for spring or year round if you want too!
Neutral Throw Pillows
Use throw pillows to create cozy corners. I recently finished up a project in my son’s room! He had this empty nook by his window and I knew it needed a little something. I crafted it into a cozy corner with a DIY bench to give more depth and seating space to the room. The room itself has this moody, rich, rustic vibe – with deep colors and earthy tones so I wanted to make sure this area blended well.
Once the bench was complete, I decked it out with some neutral accent pillows that perfectly complement to the room’s color palette! I added in these two leather pillows with a simple cream pillow (similar one linked here!) to maintain the aesthetic of the room. These simple touches really tie everything together, creating a cozy little nook that’s begging to be curled up in with a good book. And let me tell you, my son absolutely loves it!
Layering Neutral Throw Pillows
Use throw pillows to tie the colors of your room together! I recently decided to spruce up my theater room, weaving in a mix of brown leather and black-and-white throws! I was craving more dimension than a simple black-and-white vibe and wanted to pull in some of the tones from the movie posters. My vision was a rich-hued room with a bit more depth. When I saw how the subtle hints of brown leather paired with the elegant gold sconces and creamy rug, everything just fell into place. Plus, that brown leather pillow? It matched my decorative boxes perfectly.
Since I knew I wanted this room to have multiple color dimension, I played with a palette of versatile colors. I wanted to set the stage for some serious cozy vibes. I hung these darker-toned green posters with gold sconces! Taking a cue from our office, I aimed for a moody, rich color scheme. I wanted that cozy, rustic feel to make this room comfortable, but still have an aesthetic . Once the posters were up, I introduced those perfectly matched pillows to tie everything together. The blend of colors created this modern-meets-cozy atmosphere that was exactly what I was envisioning.
Mixing Neutral Textured Throw Pillows
Use Pillows With Different Textures. When adding pillows to a bed, there are many different combinations that are “correct”. For me, I want every bed I decorate to look and feel like the coziest bed you have ever crawled into! I tend to like to mix different neutral textures together to create a cohesive look. In my daughter’s room, I used two quilted Euro Shams that match her comforter, paired with two subtle pattern prints and then an embroidered lumbar pillow. When mixing and matching neutrals, my tip is to use pillows in the same tone family!
