Modern Rustic Office Design

Thanks For Sharing!

I always say it takes me about a year from the time I start a room to the time I say I “finish” it. And no matter how hard I try, that’s always how long it takes me!  If you’ve been reading for awhile now, you may remember my mini home office makeover from last spring. That was phase 1 in making over my husband’s home office and I’m so so excited to finally show you phase 2 and our FINAL Modern Rustic Office Design.

I partnered with Hayneedle to complete this space and give it the rustic, industrial, masculine and classic look I wanted. Doing full room designs are my absolute favorite. A lot of work goes into them, so much thought goes into every single detail, there are a lot of trial and errors and then it comes down to this. And I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out! Ok, I can’t wait any longer. Let’s dive in.

INDUSTRIAL HOME OFFICE

Rustic Office Design for the home - Come take a tour

Welcome to our home office. I’m going to take you on a tour of this room and also explain a little bit of the thought process behind the design.

Modern Rustic Office - Come take a tour of this home office with dark wood trim and masculine touches. The reclaimed wood wall makes such a statement.

There is something I love about a traditional and timeless looking office/den. You know, the ones you picture in old mansions filled with dark wood, lined with books, a cozy fire, seating area and just an overall timeless feeling. I wanted to take that traditional look and merge it with my rustic and industrial style. And this is the end result.

RUSTIC OFFICE DECOR

Industrial office Desk in a metal finish! Looks so good in front of this Stikwood Reclaimed Wood Wall
Modern Industrial Office Design

My very first project in this space was the Stikwood wall in Reclaimed Weathered Wood. This weathered wood instantly blended the dark wood trim with the gray tones I wanted to bring in and set the overall tone for the room.

Industrial Planter With Moss

Since this is my husband’s home office that he works in almost every day, he had a few specific requests. Number one, he wanted a really cool industrial desk that was big, felt sturdy and faced the french doors so he could look out into the main area of our home and see the kids playing (more like wrestling and fighting, but one can dream). He also asked that I somehow work in his college football jersey.

Industrial Farmhouse Office Desk

On a side note, can I take a moment and tell you how much I love that he appreciates good design and has really specific ideas of his own?  My husband is pretty amazing and he does so much for our family, (not to mention I’ve taken over the rest of the house), so that pushed me even harder to make this space perfect for him.

I searched long and hard for a desk that fit his needs and also fit into my design. I found Industrial Desk by Hooker Furniture that I fell in love with. I love the metal top and the hammered nailhead trim with weathered wood legs. This desk is beautiful in person and one we will have for a long time. And most importantly, HE loves it.

Farmhouse Chic Office Design

Along with the desk, the chair was also super important. After all, you can’t work too well if you are uncomfortable sitting at your desk! I got this beautiful  Linen office Chair with nailhead trim. I love the contrast between the metal desk and the soft linen. Even I’ve sat in this chair for extended period of times when I decide to work in the office, and I can tell you that it’s super comfy.

Rustic Chic Sideboard for Industrial Home Office

We didn’t have any storage in the room, so I added this gorgeous rustic sideboard table from Hayneedle. It’s the Riverside Bellagio Server, this piece is gorgeous and filled with character.

The drawers are nice and space and the cabinets have shelves inside. This piece is really really well made.

Vintage Fan

This fan I found on Amazon, I actually love shopping there for accessories!

RUSTIC OFFICE DESIGN WITH SPORTS THEME

Industrial Home Office Design with Vintage Sports Theme

This wall took a little for me to get just right. I knew I wanted bookshelves on this wall since I didn’t have any other shelves in the room. And I think bookshelves are a staple in any office design. You may recall that I had a different etagere here before but it just didn’t feel right. It wasn’t the right size or the right style and I’ve learned over the years not to settle when it comes to design, or else it will bother me every time I walk into the room. (oh and you can find this cute cordless lamp here!)

Styling Industrial Office Shelves For A Rustic Home Office

So I swapped that piece out for these more Industrial Bookshelves. I had pretty specific measurements to work with which limited my selection, so I put two of these together to take up more of the wall and I just love them. They are now perfect.

Sports Patent Prints hung in rustic home office

Since the shelves don’t go all the way up our 9 ft. ceilings, I added these sports themed patent prints to carry the eye upward. I found them on Hayneedle and they have a couple of other ones on there too. I thought it helped tie in the subtle sports theme with the jersey on the wall, but also keep the industrial look of the room.

Industrial office Design with open shelves, brown leather Chesterfield and dark accents
Brown Leather Chesterfield Sofa in dark rustic office design

Moving around the room to this great seating area. I have wanted a leather chesterfield sofa forever. I love the classic timeless style and I thought this room was the perfect space for it.

It’s proven to be a great couch to nap on, and the kids love to climb up on it and watch all the garbage trucks go by.

Modern Rustic Office

We are so happy with how this space turned out. I think of any room in our home, this space is the best reflection of my personal style. Watch out Husband, I might be taking this over soon! :)

I so feel you! I really need to take my time, and roll things around before I make choices and design decisions. I’m not a fast decorator. Loving all your details and the room is just full of texture and interesting items and choices!! Bravo!!

Looks killer!! Is this LVT Flooring? Where did you find it? There’s too much gray in the LVT options at Home Depot.

Thanks so much for your kind words! Our flooring was installed in our home prior to us purchasing it, so I am not sure of the exact name. I’m so sorry.

    Hi –
Love this room! Would you be willing to share the paint colors you used for the walls & trim? (Also for the hallway walls and trim colors from the image looking outside the doorway in?)

    Thanks.

Thank you SO much! The color was here when we moved in, but I believe its Sherwin Williams Pavestone or Colonnade Gray.
