Master Bedroom Inspiration

Hey All! Happy Wednesday! I’m on a roll with our house right now, which would generally not be an issue but it’s causing me to have a little decorating ADD. I have way too many rooms that are “in-progress” and I’m itching to finally get a space finished and do a big reveal. Naturally, I’m only 2 projects away from finishing the family room and I decide to start another makeover. Sigh. This time we’re moving to the Master Bedroom Inspiration!

Now, I’m writing this post with confidence because the makeover has already started which means progress is being made and I actually have a deadline for this project which means you are going to see it very soon :)

So here is what we are working with. There is nothing really wrong with the space, I am just ready for a change.

For a little background, my husband purchased our home in his bachelor days and our bedroom furniture was his big purchase when he moved in. It’s actually a deep espresso but you would never know that because it looks black most of the time. It’s a little more contemporary than I would purchase today but I can work with it. My husband requested that I refrain from painting it, which means it’s staying dark, which means I’ll be designing the room around this furniture!

The duvet and shams were wedding presents (which we are grateful for), but it’s not 2008 anymore and it’s time to brighten things up. I’ll also tell you that my husband picked this wall color. I actually don’t mind it and for a guy in his (then) twenties, it isn’t bad at all. I guess I always envisioned our room looking a little like this picture below, but it never really got there and after 6 years of this wall color and this decor, I think it’s time for a change.

So… Here is where I want to take this room. Keeping in mind that I have to keep the dark furniture, I want to give it a fresh new look. I want it to be crisp and clean and really brighten the space. There is only one small window in our bedroom so I’ll be giving the walls a lighter color and adding a lot of white. Eeek! I can’t wait.

Here are a few rooms that I’m drawing inspiration from. All of my inspiration photos have varying design styles, but there are elements I enjoy about each.

Via The Nester

I love the gray walls and the white detailing and the white curtains and the gold accents are really pulling me in.

Via Indulgy

Once again, I am really into the gold accents and the mixing of different textures and patterns. The room gives me hope that my dark furniture can still work in a modern space (hoping).

I just love this space, so much. I am really into the mixing of the different wood tones and the bright white walls and I love how cozy this space feels. I feel like there should be a fire on the opposite wall.

Found Via by House Beautiful

This room pulls a little more of the vintage, masculine look I tend to lean towards. The mixtures of the browns, blacks, whites and grays and the vintage accessories are beautiful.

Via Liz Marie Blog

And here is one big secret. I am slightly obsessed with white decorative deer silhouettes and I have wanted a wall sculpture for a really long time. I love how Liz incorporated this one into her wall gallery and I just might NEED one in my new bedroom!

SO there you have it! I can officially tell you that as of writing this post, the bedroom walls are painted and there is a new duvet cover and shams and I have new wall art ordered (Which is a big step for me. I very rarely buy new pieces!). But that is about it! And based on how my other spaces have gone, this space could go just about anywhere from here. Even I’m anxious to see how it turns out :)

You’re bedroom furniture looks almost IDENTICAL to ours! Bought in 2008 – ha! :) I’ve been basically burying my head in the sand with our bedroom though because I can’t stand the way it looks – dark, and TOO contemporary. I’m anxious to see where you take it because I had basically resigned myself to the fact that I needed new stuff (or new to me), or had to paint it all. Excited to see how it turns out!

This has been a major project over the course of the last 7 months, and it has been so exciting to see it all come together. My goal was to create an elegant and timeless look to our staircases, adding character with unique features of the railings, classic neutral runners with gold stair rods to complete the look and a moment for the large luxe chandelier that you can see from the courtyard. And of course a fresh look with smooth creamy walls.

But I’m not entirely done just yet! Part 2 will be coming in 2026!
