In true One Room Challenge fashion, I didn’t get around to sharing updates on the bathroom renovation last week! So let’s pack two weeks into one. Because LOTS has actually happened! Things are dirty, messy, demoed, slightly scary but also SO exciting.
I wont like, between the backyard renovation and other partnerships going on, when we started demoing last week I had a moment of, “What was I thinking?!” I looked around at the completely demoed bathroom torn a part and took a big gulp. Am I actually going to be able to do this in 6 weeks?
But I took a step back and I feel like I have this thought at the start of every renovation, especially the One Room Challenge. And at the end of the 6 weeks, I am SO glad I did it. I’ve never regretted a big makeover or larger renovation. EVER. You just have to take one step at a time.
At the end of the day, there is NEVER a good time to do a big renovation. Life is busy, they are inconvenient, the mess they make can be tough to live through. BUT. They are 100% worth it.
Ok I’ll get off my TED talk and head into where we are at right now.
Original Bathroom
For reference, here is what we started with in this space. It was never my favorite bathroom in our house and after almost 7 years, it’s time for a big facelift. I want it to feel like the rest of our home.
Current Bathroom
The last two weeks have been demo time! Which should have only taken 1 day to do… but I haven’t had a ton of time to work on this project over the past week. I hope it speeds up from here!
My Father-in-law helped me with the demo. We took out the tub liner, removed the vanity and backsplash, and this week I removed all the tile. And don’t worry, that’s not mold on the floor it’s just the debris from the dark tile :).
Next up this week:
- Finish removing the tile
- Patch the drywall
- Start painting the ceiling and walls
- Install the shower pan

Should we play a game called, “Guess how many times Taryn changes this bathroom design?!”. I shared a few different design boards on the previous post. I loved both, but neither felt 100% right for this space. Normally I have one item/picture or SOMETHING that will spark the inspiration for a space. But since I’m starting from scratch in here, the possibilities are endless and that’s getting the best of me this time around.
I decided to play around with my design yet again. I actually merged the two looks a little bit to create something I now feel like I can get behind. I think this is going to be it this time. We’ll see, next week I may have another update.

Was this a guest bath? Do you have a tub somewhere else? We want to put in a shower in both our bathrooms but people are advising us against it because they said if we ever sell there Hass to be a bathtub in the house

Hi! This bathroom is used by both guests and it also connects to one of my kid’s bedrooms. It’s dual purpose. We are fortunate to have 4 bathrooms, and two of them still have bath tubs. So we felt comfortable taking this one out. But I would agree, that I would keep at least one bath tub in the house for resell purposes.
