DIY Modern Wood Christmas Ornaments

I’ve only shown a few Christmas posts this year, but can you guess my theme yet? I’ve shared this DIY Plate Charger Wreath, a Large Scale Christmas Print and now these DIY Modern Wood Christmas Ornaments! I’m definitely sticking with my love for black and white Christmas decor and will be including pops of red and lots of greenery this year.

For this fun ornament craft, I’m joining 20 other bloggers who are all sharing DIY Ornament Ideas. Keep scrolling to the botton to see them all.

DIY Modern Wood Christmas Ornaments

Learn how to create these DIY Modern Wood Christmas Ornaments for your tree this year! These Scanvdivian inspired ornaments are a unique touch!

I always like to do things a little different. I like to keep my decor interesting and a little unexpected. I thought these ornaments bring about a little Scandinavian design that I often lean towards during the holidays. I love the black mixed with wood elements and woods beads are my favvvorite.

DIY Modern wood Christmas Ornaments using wood rounds and wood beads.

These are really fun ornaments to make and are super easy. You could definitely make them during a Christmas craft night because the paint dries super fast and there isn’t a lot of wait time needed between steps.

Make these Scandinavian inspired Christmas ornaments using craft wood rounds, black leather cording and wood beads. Such a unique Christmas ornament idea,

I was also thinking that you could turn these into key chains too! You would never lose your keys and they would look super cute!

DIY Wood Ornament Supplies

  • Wood Rounds
  • Painter’s Tape
  • Black Acrylic Paint
  • Black Leather Cording
  • Power Drill

Modern Wood Ornament Tutorial

Tape off your wood rounds using painter’s tape. Varying the lines to create unique patterns. You can even cut the tape in half to create smaller lines.

Paint over the lines using black acrylic paint and wait for it to dry.

Once the paint is dry, remove the tape and reveal your lines.

Drill the whole at the top and bottom of each round.

I then made little tassels using black leather cording,

I found that it was easiest to thread both pieces of the cording through the hole and tie in the back with a knot.

Scandinavian Inspired Ornaments

These DIY Modern Christmas Ornaments are really easy to make and add a unique touch to your Christmas decor.

Finish it off by threading a piece of cording through the top, placing a wood bead through, knot and then knot at the top to make a loop.

Hang them on your tree or on a branch. Or better yet, use them after Christmas as a key ring!

Staircase reveal part one! SWIPE for the before an Staircase reveal part one! SWIPE for the before and to see all the details. This has been a major project over the course of the last 7 months, and it has been so exciting to see it all come together. My goal was to create an elegant and timeless look to our staircases, adding character with unique features of the railings, classic neutral runners with gold stair rods to complete the look and a moment for the large luxe chandelier that you can see from the courtyard. And of course a fresh look with smooth creamy walls.

But I’m not entirely done just yet! Part 2 will be coming in 2026!
