I’ve only shown a few Christmas posts this year, but can you guess my theme yet? I’ve shared this DIY Plate Charger Wreath, a Large Scale Christmas Print and now these DIY Modern Wood Christmas Ornaments! I’m definitely sticking with my love for black and white Christmas decor and will be including pops of red and lots of greenery this year.

DIY Modern Wood Christmas Ornaments
I always like to do things a little different. I like to keep my decor interesting and a little unexpected. I thought these ornaments bring about a little Scandinavian design that I often lean towards during the holidays. I love the black mixed with wood elements and woods beads are my favvvorite.
These are really fun ornaments to make and are super easy. You could definitely make them during a Christmas craft night because the paint dries super fast and there isn’t a lot of wait time needed between steps.
I was also thinking that you could turn these into key chains too! You would never lose your keys and they would look super cute!
DIY Wood Ornament Supplies
Modern Wood Ornament Tutorial
Tape off your wood rounds using painter’s tape. Varying the lines to create unique patterns. You can even cut the tape in half to create smaller lines.
Paint over the lines using black acrylic paint and wait for it to dry.
Once the paint is dry, remove the tape and reveal your lines.
Drill the whole at the top and bottom of each round.
I then made little tassels using black leather cording,
I found that it was easiest to thread both pieces of the cording through the hole and tie in the back with a knot.
Scandinavian Inspired Ornaments
Finish it off by threading a piece of cording through the top, placing a wood bead through, knot and then knot at the top to make a loop.
Hang them on your tree or on a branch. Or better yet, use them after Christmas as a key ring!
