Large Vintage Inspired Picture Frame

Happy Monday! How many of you completed a new project this weekend?! Lately, I’ve been trying to display more family photos around our home. I have so many great pictures of our kids, but I’m not someone who likes pictures displayed in every nook and cranny. I like our photos to blend in with our decor.

One thing I have found with having little kids, is that our family photos change often. With the addition of a new baby or simply kids growing up too fast. Instead of spending hundreds of dollars on canvas or wood prints every year, I’m going to show you how to make a Large Vintage Inspired Picture Frame for around $40!

I wanted to display this very special photo of the kids from our newborn shoot in the fall with Rustic Star Photography. It’s one of my very favorite photos of the three kids and I wanted it displayed in our home. I love how it turned out, it’s unique and not only brings meaning into the home but also serves as a decorative piece.

SUPPLIES

• 24″ X 36″ Print of Your Favorite Photo*
• (4) 2″ X 40″ pieces of wood
• Classic Gray Minwax Stain
• Wood Glue
• (2) Black Hooks
• 30″ Black Chain

You can order these from Staples for only $20, just ask for an Engineering Print instead of a large photo.

You can pick up these thin pieces of wood at Home Depot that come in 4 ft pieces. I just cut mine down to 40″ and then gave them a coat of Minwax Classic Gray Stain.

Flip two of them over so you see the ‘bad’ side and lay a thin layer of wood glue.

Carefully unroll your photo/engineering print and gently press it onto the boards.

Tip: Engineering prints are made on paper, so they wrinkle easy. You want to be super careful during this part.

Place another thin layer of glue and then place the remaining boards on top.

Using a damp towel, wipe off any excess glue. Then let it dry. I placed heavy books on top to make sure the boards were flat.

Gently screw the two hook into the back piece of wood. I placed mine about 7″ in on each side.

You can pick up black chain at any hardware store. It comes on large spools and you just have to ask them to cut it down for you. My piece measures 30″.

I wanted to complete the industrial look of the piece and I found an old railroad tie for the hook.

This is a great project that can be completed in a day. Hope you enjoy it and find a place for more family photos in your home!
