You guys, I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to get blackout shades in all the bedrooms! Oh how I wish I would have done this YEARS ago, especially when our kids were babies and toddlers. But better late than never. I partnered with Blindster to help bring new window treatments into our home for both functionality and design. I want to show you our new blackout roman shades throughout our house.

Blackout Roman Shades
I am a huge fan of Roman Shades. I think they add an elegant and polished look to a space. They are timeless addition to your home that will add value. Blindster has a few different options of Roman Shades to fit your style, but I picked out the Premium Soft Fold Roman Shades in Wilmington Moonlight.
One thing I will note about the color is that the swatch I received appeared to be more of a light gray/griege and when the blinds arrived they were definitely more on the tan/neutral color. I still really like them, but just an FYI if you order the sample as well.
Kitchen Window Treatments
Our kitchen was one of the priorities for us. We’ve been here over 6 years and I have never put any shades in this window and we regret it every summer! The sun sets right outside that window and every evening, right at dinner time, the sun comes glaring in and we can’t even sit at the island to eat because it’s so bright. Well that’s fixed now!

While I did blackout lining on all of the other windows, I ordered the kitchen roman shade with standard lining. I wanted to see the light come through and brighten up the kitchen.
These Roman Shades all have a ‘soft fold’ meaning you can still see the fold when they are full down. This will be total personal preference on the style of blinds you want for your house.
Layered Bedroom Window Treatments
I installed the same Premium Soft Fold Roman Shades with blackout liners in all of the kids bedrooms in the same Wilmington Moonlight color.
I also went with cordless on ALL of the shades with the exception of our bonus room (more on that below). I had cords before and it was a nightmare with them being tangled all of the time. The cordless function on these shades is so smooth and easy to use and SO much better for kid’s rooms.

I’m a huge fan of layering window treatments. You will find that in all of the kids’ bedrooms I paired the Roman Shades with a set of curtains on either side. I think it makes the space feel more polished and custom. My daughter’s room is a little more brighter, lighter and whimsical than any other room in the house! She loves it and that is all that matters to me!
I was so happy that this color worked SO well in every room of our house. While it is a little warmer than I expected but It goes well with our carpet (which I hope to replace this year) and all of the warmer tones in the bedrooms.
Alright, let’s look at my FAVORITE room of the house! Our bonus room! This was another room we really need blackout shades for. The sun also sets on this side of the house and on movie nights it can be a little too bright in here. Now we can pull the shades down and have a dark movie theater in here!
One thing I will note is that Blindster can only make CORDLESS shades for up to 84″ and this window is 96″. Meaning we had to have a cord on here. I would much rather have cordless, but it works.
For a moment I thought about doing a darker color in here to match the trim, but I actually think these look good with the warmer tones on this side of the room!
I ordered TONS of fabric samples from Blindster, whic I encourage you to do so as well. Most of the fabrics looks much different in person than they do online. The fabric I went with is a very thick, canvas like material. I really love the material.
