Tips For Taking Better Pictures of Kids

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Panasonic LUMIX. All opinions are 100% mine.

Taryn is a blogger. Taryn knows how to use a digital camera. Therefore Taryn takes really awesome pictures of her kids all the time. WRONG. (until now)

Oh my gosh, you guys. It’s actually really embarrassing how bad I am at taking pictures of my kids. Like most moms, I got a fancy digital camera when I was pregnant thinking I would take all of these amazing photos of my kids. I know the basics: good lighting, don’t use a flash, etc. Yet, I still feel like only 1:100 photos is decent and in-focus. I’m here with a game changer for moms who want better pictures of their kids (pretty sure most of you are raising your hand right now). And it’s easy too. I had a chance to review the LUMIX G7 4K by Panasonic and I absolutely love it. And I’m not just saying that at all. If you are wanting to invest in a nice camera, listen up. Tips For taking better pics with kids Here are just a few of the pictures I took this weekend. Not too shabby?! I mean the subjects are pretty darn cute so how could I go wrong. Panasonic Lumix G7 The LUMIX 4K Cameras are specifically designed to help capture a specific moment in time. When you shoot in the 4K Photo Mode, you’re able to take a 4K video and then pull still photos out of that video to ensure you always get the perfect shot. And it totally works. Camera Settings This camera also has a Scene Photo Mode that I fell in love with. Since I was taking pictures of my kids I played around with a few of the portrait modes. One for Silky Skin and the other for Softy Backlight. I love these settings because you don’t have to play around with manual mode and all the settings. It does it for you. Here is the setting I used for my two photoshoots with my kids.  SILKY SKIN MODE The first shoot I set up was in our master bedroom. I put the scene setting to ‘Silky Skin”. This gave all their faces a really smooth and soft. I wanted a fun playful lifestyle shoot with the kids. This shoot took 5-10 minutes (which is all they could handle) and I was able to get some really great shots out of it. This was a good reminder that it doesn’t take long to get a few pictures of the kids and I should do this more often. Saving pics from a burst Taking Kid Pictures Since it’s impossible for a 3 month old, 2 year old and 4 year old to sit still, they were moving throughout the entire shoot. This is when the 4K Video Mode came in handy. Here is a segment of 2 pictures from the burst, you can see that one first is perfect and the second has blurry limbs. I was able to scroll through the video burst until I found that money shot. It was have taken so much longer if I was in manual mode clicking away. Backlit Softness After nap time we headed to the river and I was able to play some more with the camera. This time I used the ‘Backlit Softness’ Scene Mode. This is a really great mode for beautiful portraits in a natural environment. I also used the sports mode while they were playing.

This camera is definitely worth the investment and I’m excited to keep playing with it and learning more. Here’s more information on G7.

Here are a few of my finished photos from our fun day of shooting. I was really impressed with the image straight out of the camera, but I did go in edit them just a little bit to get the look I wanted. Three Kids

It’s often the final finishing touches that truly transform the vibe of a room. I picked up some final styling pieces from @wayfair , I am obsessed with both side tables. They are both statement pieces. And the personal photos, candle, heart trays and leather pillows are why bring the warmth and personal touches into this space.

I finally found the perfect family and pet-friendl I finally found the perfect family and pet-friendly sofa that passes the designer test! This is the 5-Seat Modular Corner Sectional from @7thavenueco in the color Oatmeal Beige. We ordered it in the extra-deep seat option for ultimate coziness. The material is water-repellent, stain-resistant and you can also throw all covers in the wash!

We cannot say enough great things about this sofa, we all love it and just sink into it. It definitely passes the family test. Plus, it truly is gorgeous. It looks very chic.
