Now that Miss E is in school all day and baby brother still takes some good naps, I’ve been getting some really good quality time in with my middle boy. Every day when our ‘mommy and me’ time starts I always ask him what he wants to do… and the response is always the same, “I want to BAKE!”. Well, you don’t have to ask me twice. The other day we made these Mini Spider Cakes, they were super easy to make and we had tons of fun making a Halloween Treat together, so I thought I’d share them with you here too!
And yes, they are just as delicious as they are cute!
These were super simple to make! I’m all about saving time and using box mixes (and because my 3 year old’s attention span is pretty short), so I use them whenever I can and keep plenty on hand!
SUPPLIES
- Heart Shaped Pan
- Chocolate Cake Mix (and ingredients listed on box)
- Candy Eyes
- Black Decorative Frosting
- Black Fondant
Mix your chocolate cake mix and pour it into the Heart Shaped Pan. Bake for about 15 minutes and wait for your cakes to cool.
Using the star tip on the black frosting, make little stars that cover the entire top of the cake. And then add those fun eyes!
Roll our the fondant into long ropes. Then dip them into frosting and attach them on the underside.
Add all 8 legs and you are set!
To give you plate an extra touch, make 3 circles with chocolate syrup then take a toothpick and pull out away from the center to create a spider web.
I know I’m a little biased, but he is the cutest little baking assistant :) This was a really fun activity to do with my son, I hope you have fun too! And be on the look out for more fun baking ideas since we seem to be in the kitchen every day now!
