Today I’m kicking off a fun new series here on the blog where every month I’ll be showing you how to style a space in your home for $100! As much as I love big DIY projects, the finishing touches on the space are just as important. I have heard from many readers that one of their biggest struggles is styling and learning how to put pieces together for every day decor. My goal is to keep all items purchased to around $100, but it might end up being a little over. I’m trying! For the first post, I’m sharing Tips for Styling a Round Coffee Table with all new pieces from Amazon!
Everything used in my coffee table display I just purchased for this post so everything is in stock if you want to recreate it! I’ll also be talking through my process of why I picked each item as well.

How To Style A Coffee Table
So let’s take a look at the different layers it takes to style a coffee table. Whether you have a square, rectangle or round coffee table, a lot of these concepts will apply for all.
Today, I’ll be styling the round coffee table in our bonus room.
Step 1: Stack Decorative Books
I am a huge fan of decorating with books. I often grab books at the thrift store just because I like the cover, size or color. With no exaggeration I use them when styling every space!
For this coffee table decor, I started by layering two coffee table books. 1) Linen Styling Book specifically made for styling purposes with a pretty modern linen cover and 2) Travel Home Coffee Table Book. I picked this book because I loved the colors and typography of the cover. This is a book that fits well with my decor and is for sure a book I would love to browse through with a cup of tea!
When placing the books together, you can decide if you want to see the spine, (if it has cool lettering or colors I like, I will do this way). Or you can have the pages face outward for texture. I also layer them with the larger on the bottom and smaller one on top.
You can also see that I slightly angled them to allow for more visually appealing vignette. Wow that was a lot of talk about books!
Now let’s build on it.
Step 2: Add Height With Vases
In any vignette or display, you will want to add a variety of levels, aka heights to create dimension. For this display I got two white ceramic vases in modern silhouettes to bring in some height.
I think one vase would also work if the shape was a little more round or larger, the one single tall vase felt a little out of place, so by bringing in the second smaller vase it added that middle level that helps merge the books and the tall vase.
When picking out complimentary vases, I am looking for vases that fit the vibe I’m looking for. In this case I wanted a light color to pop against the darker sofa and ones with modern shapes and textures. Ceramic vases are perfect for this rustic modern look.
Layer 3: Add Natural Elements
I like to bring in some form of a natural element to every vignette I am working on. That can come in the form of a plant, flowers, dried branches or leaves, a wooden object or in this case a fun decorative stick.
This piece of wood brings in so much texture and character to the display. It also helps extend the vignette on the table by making it a little larger.
If you want to stay right at $100 and like a more minimalistic look, then you can stop here.
Layer 4: Top It Off With A Candle
But if you don’t mind the extra $20 for the candle (or you may have one at home already!) sometimes it’s nice to add a little warmth and nice scent with a cool candle.
I am a big fan of labels and branding. So when picking out candles I always look for ones that match the style of our home from the color, the shape of the jar, the font , etc. The smell is an extra bonus :)
I chose black for the candle to tie into the black accents in the room. I chose a lot of cream and neutral tones for this decor on the coffee table since the elements are very moody in here already, and the black just helps bring it all together.
TIP: When putting the whole look together, I’m looking at how all the pieces look and the angles. I don’t want anything in direct lines of each other. Meaning no two items should be right behind one another. Everything should be staggered and balanced.
I hope you enjoyed this little styling session! Does it help to have me talk through it all?
Next month, I’ll be talking sprucing up your bedding for $100!
