Disclosure: I was chosen to be a Michaels Maker for Michaels Stores. All opinions are 100% my own.
It’s officially time for holiday decorating, holiday parities and gift giving! So matter how hard we try and slow down, this time of year often becomes packed with fun filled activities and my to-do list seems to be never-ending. Can anyone else relate? If you often feel in a bind with what to give neighbors, the hostess that always seems to have everything or how to repurpose those ornaments you never use, I have TONS of ideas for you.
For this month’s Michaels Maker Challenge we’ve been challenged to come up with ideas to help you in a bind this year. Today, I’m sharing 3 DIY Hostess Gift Ideas. These are all simple and cute ideas that can be completed in minimal time.
When I think about your typical party hostess, I think about something who takes pride in their home, who likes to be in the kitchen and who always has fun little accessories.
Keeping that in mind, I put together a few DIY Hostess Gifts that any hostess would love.
1.DIY Grain Sack Christmas Apron
I love anything with a grain sack print! I created this faux grain sack, vintage inspired apron using a little red paint, masking tape and heat transfer paper. Then, topped off the gift with these adorable Santa Measuring Spoons I found at Michaels! This is perfect for the hostess who loves being in the kitchen!
Here is a quick tutorial on how I made the apron.
1) Pick up an blank apron 2) Tape off your grain sack pattern. I’ve found that basic masking tape works better than anything else I’ve tried when painting on fabric. This gives really clean lines! 3) Dry brush red paint. I just gently dap the red paint on to give it a faded/vintage look. 4) Pick your graphic you want to use and then reverse it so you print the mirror image onto heat transfer paper. 5) Trim the edges and then iron the image onto the apron. 6) Peel off the paper and you have an adorable, personalized apron!
2. Marquee Letter Gift
Who doesn’t love marquee letters right now?! They can be great for holiday decor or every day decor. If your hostess loves to decorate, give a little battery operated marquee letter and attach a cute printable. Super simple and inexpensive.
For this project, I picked up a battery operated star marquee letter and then made a FREE printable for it. You can download it HERE!
DIY Ornament Gift Wrap
Here is a fun idea for giving a small gift, or a piece of jewelry. Pick up there large clear ornaments, and place the pretty jewelry inside. Ornaments make the perfect box and make the gift feel that much cuter!
These would also work great as party favors. Put each guest name on an ornament and have them find theirs on the tree!

Hi Taryn, been long time since have visited your fun and splendid blog., Hope all well with you and your family. Kids must be getting bigger.
Love your apron, great faux grain sack pattern. Wish had more time as would take stab at making my own.
You are making some awesome projects it looks like as always.
I Happened to be online one day few months ago and saw something about your daughter in hospital, is she ok now? Sure hope so, is your little guy running you ragged yet?
Glad to visit your blog today. Won’t be online or be able to type for while after Dec. 7th. am having right shoulder and rotator cuff replaced. Not sure what to expect but having it done has cut my holiday crafting short this year. That’s ok, next year maybe. But then next year will need to have left shoulder replaced. Falling apart or working to become bionic woman? Have deteriorating joint/disk disease so who knows what will need to be replaced after this. Had both knees replaced in 2008/2009.
Hope you have fantastic holidays, your looking good girl if your photo is any indication. Happy daze
