DIY Simple Garage Mudroom

Thanks For Sharing!

Disclosure: I am a member of the BHG Live Better Network. I received compensation from BHG at Walmart for this post.

January. It is officially the month to get organized and I’m jumping on the bandwagon. When we moved into our house in August we did a ton of work inside and then the holidays came like lightening speed. Now it’s time to pick up where we left off and actually start to the tackle the garage that’s still full of boxes and STUFF and in all honesty, it’s one big mess.

Anyway. I have dreamt of having a mudroom since forever. I love the look and feel of them, not to mention they are so practical. If I had ONE negative thing to say about our home, it’s that it doesn’t have a mudroom. We live on a big field that is muddy in the winter and sandy in the summer and we are a 3 minute walk to the river. All this to say, with two little kids and a dog I feel like they are tracking mud, dirt and water through our house daily. WE NEED A MUDROOM.

I have big plans but for the future ( like a 10 year plan), but for now I need a quick fix that is going to look cute and keep me organized and help the mess from getting in the house. I made a small Garage Mudroom area to help contain the backpacks, muddy shoes and coats and I LOVE how it turned out!

DIY Garage Mudroom

IMG_9768As you can see in our before picture, our garage needed some help. And this is just a small corner. Because we don’t have a designated ‘drop space’, we find shoes here by the door, in the hall closet, on the back patio and just about everywhere else.

DIY Garage Drop Station - Perfect place for backpacks and coats! But now, all my problems have been solved! Phew. I absolutely love this space!

Here is my little mudroom station that has a space for my daughter, son and our dog. She comes with a lot of stuff too :) I designation each space with a fun black and white graphic and framed them in these Better Homes and Garden Frames.

DIY Garage Drop StationAll of my key organization features are Better Homes and Garden Products from Walmart. Like the:

Galvanized Bucket

Shoe Rack

Milk Crates

 Picture Frames

I also added a chicken wire frame to place little notes or reminders on our way out!

Milk Crates

Seriously, how amazing are these Milk Crates? And they are only $15!!! You have no idea what lengths I went to to get these. They are so pretty and totally fit my style. I’m planning on keeping my kid’s hats and gloves and other winter items in the baskets to keep them organized and easy to access. I swear, every time we go outside to play I’m running around trying to find everything in the house.

Industrial Milk Crates by Better Homes and Garden at WalmartI built a basic shelf to put the baskets on, its the same one I made for our bathroom shelves. It takes no time at all and is really inexpensive. I then added a few basic ceiling hooks for functionality and to keep the industrial look.

DIY Garage Mudroom - inexpensive way to organize you and your kiddosOh organization how I love you!

Oh my goodness Taryn – I LOVE it. I have been meaning to do something with the space in the garage but it also is home to the water heater so it’s smaller in that immediate area. Funny enough with a 4 car garage – I still don’t have the “perfect” space for a mudroom set up. However- you have inspired me to get more creative. Right now my focus is our coat closet. We had them build it as deep as they could possibly go under the stairs – however that just encouraged everyone to turn it into a catch all. I would love to walk in & have it more organized. That’s the goal anyway.

I get muddy shoes, wet boots, and muddy dog prints all over the kitchen floor…onto the carpet in the living room to get to the closet to put coat and shoes away! This would be perfect for us!!!

Just wondering – do you have a bench or do you plan on adding a bench so the kiddies can sit and easily remove shoes/boots and Mom can sit to wipe off doggy’s wet paws???
