Easy Pumpkin Carving Ideas

Nothing says cozy like spending a Saturday in the fall with your family, carving pumpkins inside a warm and cozy home, drinking hot cider and then sitting down for a hearty meal and admiring your amazing pumpkins. And this past Saturday we did just that. We got out of the house early with the kiddos and went to the pumpkin patch to get our pumpkins. This was an extra special year because it was the first year Miss E picked out her own pumpkin and helped with the design. We used Pumpkin Masters kid friendly carving kits and it made carving a pumpkin with a toddler  really easy (see video below)!

In fact, I’m going to show you a few easy pumpkin carving ideas today using the Pumpkin Masters Kits. We buy them every year and always have great results.

Here is a pic from our pumpkin patch outing, we’ve had such a beautiful fall here in Seattle and we are taking full advantage of it!

I had a blast helping Miss E with her first pumpkin carving experience this year, you can learn all about in the video below, but I also had fun carving my own pumpkin too!

I was so excited to try the new decorative punches tools, but I didn’t have very good luck with them. I think my pumpkin was too thick because they holes did not punch out very well and I ended up breaking the handle off my tools. BUT I have seen them done really well by other bloggers, so I know it’s possible.

So I went onto my second pick and tried the pumpkin shaving kit. SO COOL! All of the kits include everything you need to carve your pumpkin, something to cut the tops off, a tool to scoop the innards out and then the appropriate tools to make each kit’s designs.

Here is a little snap shot of my experience with the shaving kit.

Here is my tip, the shaving tool works best in a continual motion. So instead of doing piece by piece, try to keep going for as long as you can before starting a new section.

And here is Miss E’s final pumpkin design, I love what she did, including the extra crayon marks on the pumpkin :)

You can pick up your own Pumpkin Masters Kits at your local grocery, drug, or craft store, and nationally at Target and Walmart.

Do you think you are a master pumpkin carver? You are in luck because Pumpkin Masters is hosting a huge Carving Contest this year!

Pumpkin Masters is searching for carving talent and are inviting you to share a pick of your carving via Instagram or Twitter with the hashtag #PumpkinMasters2013,  or submit on Facebook or send an email to [email protected]. There are six chances to win, including a $5,000 prize for Best Pumpkin! That’s amazing, so get carving!

Contest runs from October 1-31, 2013, you can read the official rules here.

And here is a quick video of Miss E’s first pumpkin carving experience! It was short lived, but we had fun while it lasted :)

I was selected for this opportunity as a member of Clever Girls Collective and the content and opinions expressed here are all my own.

What fun that looks. In my day (heavens sakes that eons ago) we had to use a knife and spoons. Didn’t have
the cute little kits and tools to make it little easier. Your little gal is so adorable. Does she still love her little brother as she did. Sometimes they decide little brother is getting their share of attention and they always seem to want their share when you’re changing a stinky diaper or giving baby a bath. Ah the good old days.
You and your little gal did an awesome job on your pumpkins. How many real pumpkins do you buy?
I bought several real ones in KY as they were so reasonable and I’d do them for the grandsons. The boys loved to come over to see what Grama had made and what I’d decorated. We had a great front porch so I had a ball. Still miss that house. Now those boys are almost 15 and 17.
