Tips for cleaning stainless steel appliances

Thanks For Sharing!

Disclosure: This post is in partnership with Weiman, all opinions are 100% my own.

I remember so clearly when we were about to start our very first kitchen remodel. It was our first home, a bit of a fixer upper and one that started my love for design and remodeling! When we started the remodel, one of the first things on the list was switching out our old white appliances for pretty stainless steel ones. They look so good right? But what to do about all those fingerprints?!

That was one of my first thoughts when we installed our stainless appliances. Over the years, we have tried different products and techniques, and I want to share with you my Tips for Cleaning Stainless Steel Appliances! These work!

Tips For Cleaning Stainless Steel Appliances

1. Gather Supplies

We have tried a lot of different cleaners over the years but one of the first brands we tried over 7 years ago was Weiman. We have found them to be the best and most reliable cleaners and keep going back to them. I kid you not, we always have a bottle of Weiman Stainless Steel Cleaner & Polish spray stocked under our sink because we use it so often (hello, we have three little kids). And if we run out, it’s always one of the first things on our grocery list! And yes, you can purchase these products at most local grocery and hardware stores so you don’t have to look hard!

To kick off your stainless steel cleaning tool kit, I recommend getting the Weiman Stainless Steel Cleaner & Polish Spray, Weiman Stainless Steel Wipes and Weiman Microfiber Cloth.

2. Use A Microfiber Cloth

In my opinion, this step right here is a total game changer. ONLY clean your stainless steel appliances with a microfiber towel. This is the most important step in my opinion. I have tried cleaning with paper towels and regular cleaning cloths and they all can leave streaks. The microfiber cloths collect dust and leave a very even surface, I don’t see ANY streaks at all!

3. Clean Stainless Steel Refrigerator with Spray Cleaner

So now that you have the right supplies, let’s talk about which ones I use on our appliances.   When cleaning our refrigerator, due to the large surface I always use the spray. I give it a nice even spray across the entire surface and then use my trusted microfiber cloth to rub it in. I tend to clean with a circular motion and make sure that I am getting every spot on the fridge. Some times I have to scrub a little harder to get those tougher spots, like this…

Ok, don’t judge me here but there are legit times when I can see yogurt plastered all over the handles of the fridge and hand prints all over. Thanks to my 4 year old!

So here is what our fridge may look like on any given day…

And Here is what it looks like after a quick 30 second clean using the stainless steel spray and working it in with the microfiber cloth. SO amazing how quickly these clean up!

4. Use Individual Stainless Steel Wipes for Smaller Appliances

When cleaning smaller appliances that have a combination of both stainless steel and glass components, I use the Weiman Stainless Steel Wipes in order to keep the stainless steel cleaner concentrated to just those areas. You will want to use a specific glass cleaner for the other areas. The wipes make it easy to just do the handles and trim work.

The wipes go a long ways, sometimes the cleaner comes off a little excessive, so I will just use my microfiber cloth to help with any areas that get too much. Regardless, you can still let it dry and it won’t streak!

5. Clean Your Appliances Regularly

It may be obvious, but the more often you clean your appliances the easier it is to keep them clean! If you wait until there is too much build up it could possibly damage your appliances, so make sure to do it daily or at least once a week!

Do you have any more tips for how you clean your appliances regularly?
