So I have to admit, I kind of skipped all of the Thanksgiving crafts this year and went full force into Christmas. I don’t think I have EVER done that before since Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. But before I went to far into the Christmas projects I did manage to complete one Thanksgiving craft this year.
Here is a the very easy Give Thanks Drop Cloth Pillow I made for our home. It actually fits perfectly in Miss E’s personal chair that you may have seen in our Family Room Reveal. I love having it out for all to see because it’s a great little reminder to stop and think about all that we are thankful for.
This pillow is a subtle way to bring Thanksgiving decor into your home and remind everyone in your household to give thanks. And because of the neutral colors, you could even keep it up year round if you wanted to!
Supplies Needed:
– 1/4 yard canvas drop cloth
– Heat transfer paper
– Iron
– Inkjet Printer
– Pillow stuffing
– Sewing machine and sewing supplies
Cut your drop cloth into a 10 1/2″ X 6 1/2 ” rectangle.
Using the program of your choice, create your ‘give thanks’ graphic. I used my Silhouette and chose Courier font all in lowercase. You will then need to reverse the image so it transfers onto the fabric the correct way.
Print your graphic onto transfer paper (found at your local craft store) and trim away the edges.
Iron on the graphic. Make sure to get all the edges and hold for at least 90 seconds.
Once the paper cools, slowly peel it off.
The rest of the project simply making a basic pillow form.
Put the right sides of the two pieces of fabric together and sew/serge around the edges leaving a small hole at the bottom.
Turn the pillow right side out and then stuff it using pillow stuffing.
Close the opening using a hand stitch.
See, what did I tell ya? Super simple. Hope this pillow reminds you to give thanks for all that you are thankful for this year.

Really love this pillow Taryn. So cute, unobtrusive and meaningful. Think maybe it’s the kind of thing to pull out when people in your house hold are behaving less than grateful. Not that that ever happens in real homes with families. lol
My hubs gets kinda depressed from time to time when things are harder for us. We’re on SS and with 5 weeks between paydays it does get pretty hairy trying to make the money last. We won’t have a turkey or all the trimmings this year and our daughter doesn’t invite us for anything anymore either so he gets pretty down. I do too but tend to have a brighter outlook. At least we will get paid on Wed. after Thanksgiving.
We’re in pretty good shape health wise, we have our own home, we have a dog and cat we love and we are pretty active. Things could be much worse. If we didn’t live close by we wouldn’t see them so I just try to pretend they’re away somewhere. What else can we do? Our 44th. anniversary is on the 30th. and we’ve lived to see it. Hubs had a bad stroke 2 yrs ago but is doing pretty well considering. Life goes on. It’s just one day. It would have been nice tho to have some money for Black Friday. Sigh. Just think of the money we’ll save. lol. Happy week/end.

The pillow, is great. Simple and perfect. I have a drop cloth still in the packet – that I was going to use as a drop cloth but there are just so many cool projects that I now want to try something else :) (Luckily I have some manky old towels for the painting ;)

HI Taryn! I love, love your pillow! It looks store-bought. What a great job. I am going to have to read your tutorial in depth and see how I could maybe replicate something similar.

I love the simplicity of this pretty pillow. I haven’t used transfer paper on fabric yet but am eager to try it.
Each year I make a real effort not to skip over Thanksgiving. I like to enjoy every holiday!
