Mother’s Day is just a few days away and we are heading right into shower and wedding season! Which means, it’s time to start thinking about adorable gifts and gift wrap. Yesterday, I shared some fun DIY Handmade Soaps and today I’m showing you how to make the cute DIY Grain Sack Gift Bags.
I found a great tutorial for these bags on CreativeBug . The site has over 500 instructional videos on various crafts including home decor, knitting, sewing, jewelry, food and kid’s crafts. Every time I visit their site I am instantly inspired by all of the creativity!
I thought these bags would make perfect Mother’s Day gift holders. They are super cute and made with love. Nothing better than giving a great gift in a great bag!
Supplies
- French Grain Sack
- Sewing Machine
- White Thread
- Straight Pins
- Black Leather Scraps
I picked up this French Grain Sack on Amazon for about $10. You can actually find a lot of different ones on there! First, I cut the piece down to 9″ wide and 18″ long. Then, I cut the graphic straight down the center to make 2 bags. I wanted a more abstract look so I was fine cutting the picture, but you can use the full one to make one large bag.
I loved Maya’s tutorial on how to make a square side, it was super super easy! I love it when I learn a new technique that is going to save me so much time!
I always like a little bit of a rustic touch to my projects, So I did an exposed seam at the top of the bag and then added black leather scraps for the handles. You can buy a whole bag of scraps for about $15, I love pulling them out to use in various projects.
I really love these and I might be making more for other gifts I have coming up.

Loving these cute bags! And so different with the handles. The idea of giving classes is so smart, especially if you need a last minute gift. There’s this whole shift I have seen in people giving “experiences” versus things – LOVE IT!!
