DIY Ornament Door Decoration

Thanks For Sharing!

Yesterday, I shared a small Holiday Home Tour with all of you and one thing I noticed was that my poor door was lacking Christmas decor this year. FAIL! How could I go through the Holidays without a wreath of some sort? So yesterday I whipped up this quick DIY Ornament Door Decoration using ornaments and ribbon from the dollar store and some fishing line and extra ribbon I had laying around.

Do you ever have projects that turn out nothing like you originally planned? Well, this was one. My original plan was to do a different take on an ornament wreath but it was a total fail and while playing around with some fishing line and ornaments I discovered that I could make these little ornament clusters! I instantly fell in love with how they looked so I decided to make an unconventional ornament door decoration.

This was such an easy project, probably took me 30 minutes and it gave my sad little door some holiday flair.

Supplies:

-21 Ornaments ( I used 2 packs from the Dollar Tree)

– Fishing Line

– 1″ Ribbon ( I also bought this at the Dollar Tree)

– 4″ Ribbon for Bow

– Scissors

String 7 ornaments onto the fishing line.

Then, holding the ends of the strings slowly bring them together and tie a knot. The ornaments will naturally fall into place.

Secure the fishing line with 3-4 knots and cut the extra strings.

Tie a piece of ribbon onto each of the clusters. I did this by wrapping it around one ornament and tying a knot.

Then, stagger the pieces of ribbon and tie them in a knot. Hang them on the door and cover with a piece of ribbon.

TIP: Here is my  little secret to getting my perfect bow, I actually taped down the 4 corners of the bow onto the door so it wouldn’t move :)

So what do you think? Was it a good thing my first project was a total fail?

Oh. My. Gosh. I absolutely adore this! I’ve been trying to find something for a door that isn’t a traditional wreath style…I wish I’d find this post sooner this season! But I guess I can save this idea for next year :) Thanks for sharing!

Your bow with ornaments is one of prettiest I’ve seen and different. I enjoy seeing something different than everybody else’s. The colors of your ornaments are so gorgeous, not in your face color, very subtle. gotta love your door decoration. Love yours best of many I’ve seen this season. Bravo.
I”m a bit behind so trying to read some of older posts missed while my pc was awol.

The clusters look really great. It’s a great alternative to a wreath and looks lovely.

I absolutely love this, Simple, yet so elegant. I would love to duplicate it, but the ribbon had me stumped. It looks like a satin ribbon, just lovely, but I have no idea to find it or how to recreate it. My dollare store has never had anything like it. Do you have any advice or suggestions? Thanks for sharing your inspiration!
