DIY Holiday Table Runner

Thanks For Sharing!

Disclosure: I am a member of the True Value DIY Squad.

I am so excited for the holidays this year! This will be the first time spending Christmas in our new home and I can’t wait to decorate. While I don’t bust out the decor until later this month (although I’m tempted every day), I have already been making new decor and accessories. This year I’ll be going with a metallic and white theme. I’m so excited to be sharing that enthusiasm with several other bloggers. You’ll have to check out all their metallic projects below.

I decided to whip up a new DIY Holiday Table Runner to go with my decor. I love the combo of a chic matte white paired with bright metallic! So modern and classy and I can’t wait. Oh and don’t be surprised if some wood elements are thrown in there, I just can’t help myself.

The best part, is that this can actually work for both Thanksgiving and Christmas and can even be left up year round depending on your every day decor.

I’m pairing it with a metallic vase and twigs from the yard. I love mixing shiny and rustic elements. I’m also going to guess that the centerpiece is changed 10 more times between now and Christmas :)

Neutral Table Decor and Table Runner

Are you ready to learn how to make a super easy and chic table runner?

Supplies:

– Piece of White Duck Cloth (You can also use a Painter’s Drop Cloth)

– 2″ Scotch Blue Painter’s Masking Tape W/ EdgeLock

– Metallic Fabric Paint

– Sewing Machine and White Thread

– Scissors

Duck Cloth

I wanted to use White Duck Cloth for this project because it’s one of my favorite materials to work with! You could also use a Painter’s Drop Cloth from True Value!

I cut my fabric to 16″ X 110″. I went with a longer runner because we are in the middle of building our new dining room table and it’s going to be on the larger size and I wanted the table runner to hang off the edges a little. But you could cut yours to a standard 6′ or 7′. You will also want to press the fabric before taping to eliminate any change that the fabric buckles under the tape.

Next up, time to tape and paint! I started laying strips down across the entire surface. I didn’t have a pattern, I simply varied the gaps in between each piece of tape. I was originally going to paint every opening, but then decided that it might be overkill, so I left a few blank. I think this gave it a much cleaner look.

The  Scotch Blue Painter’s Masking Tape W/ EdgeLock  is my favorite tape to use. The EdgeLock really does make a difference. I only had two minor bleeds in the entire runner and there were a lot of lines!

Pulling off the tape is seriously my favorite part! Yay! Look at those clean shiny lines. I used the finish edge as one of the edge of my table runner, and for the other I just did a simple seam with my sewing machine.

I am so happy with how my DIY Holiday Table Runner turned out and I can’t wait for company to come over.

This is great since I seem to also have someone spill red wine on my expensive table cloths. This might help save them =) Thanks for sharing! Also wanted to let you know about a new linky party starting this Saturday at 8pm called “Found & Foraged”
