Distressed Santa’s Workshop Sign

Thanks For Sharing!

My friends over at DecoArt asked me to create a Holiday project using some of their Americana Acrylic paints and I just couldn’t resist. I love anything that has to do with the holidays! So here is another fun holiday craft for all of you…

From young to old, everyone loves to dream about the place Santa makes his toys. Every time I watch Elf, The Santa Clause, Polar Express or any other Christmas movie that shows Santa’s Workshop, I secretly wish that I could visit this magical place. Yes, I BELIEVE that all of my big girl toys are made there too, like my power tools, hot glue guns and cutting machines. :)

Distressed Santa's Workshop Sign, design dining + Diapers, red and white, vintage signs, holiday signs, diy christmas signs, wooden christms signs, arrows, rustic christmas

The vintage-inspired sign is a fun take on a piece of Christmas décor. Hang it on the wall, prop it up on a mantel or place it on a stick for outdoor décor.

Supplies:

Americana Santa Red

Americana Snow White

DecoArt Multi-Purpose Sealer

DecoArt Satin Varnish

16” Wooden Songbird Arrow (found at Michaels)

Foam Brush

Small Tip Brush

Pencil for sketching or letter stencil

Palette or plastic plate for paint

#220 grit sandpaper

Start by mixing a 1:1 ratio of Santa Red paint and Wood Sealer.

Using a foam brush, apply 2 coats of the mixture onto the wooden arrow, allowing the paint to dry between each coat.
Using the smaller tip brush, apply 2 coats of Snow White paint onto the trim of the arrow. If a little paint gets onto the edges it can easily be removed when distressing later on in the process.
For the lettering, using the smaller tip brush and Snow White paint, you can either paint the letters directly onto the sign by hand or use a stencil.
Allow the paint to dry completely then remove the stencil.

Using 220 grit sandpaper, gently sand the edges of the sign and the surface. The more you sand, the more distressed the sign will appear.
Wipe the sign with a damp paper towel to remove excess dust.
Wash your foam brush. Apply a thin layer of Satin Varnish to the entire surface of the piece and allow to dry.

And just to be safe, you should probably point that arrow NORTH :)
