Chalkboard Desk Station

Thanks For Sharing!

Are your kids getting ready to head back to school already?! It’s so hard for me to even think about it for 1) schools around here don’t go back until after Labor Day and 2) my daughter is still too young for school so it is often out of mind for me.

BUT I know so many of you are gearing up already and preparing fun activities for the new year ahead. Today, I’ve partnered with 9 other bloggers to share some really creative and fun Back To School Projects that all involve chalkboard paint! Oh and there is a fun giveaway too :)

Chalkboard Desk Station by Design, Dining + Diapers

For this themed project, I decided to put together a Chalkboard Desk Station to go with the Vintage Typewriter Desk I made for Miss E’s big girl room. I bet you will never guess what those baskets are?

IMG_3007

Yup, those are actually industrial pendant light covers. Did anyone guess right? But even if you don’t have those exact ones, you could easily use simple wire baskets.

Supplies Needed:

– Chalkboard ( I purchased mine off of Decor Steals back in the fall)

– 3 Steel Screw Eyes

– 3 Wire Baskets (or industrial light covers like I used from Decor Steals)

– Annie Sloan Duck Egg Chalk Paint ( and brush)

IMG_3009

I started by painting my wire light covers (purchased on Decor Steals) in Annie Sloan Duck Egg Chalk Paint.

I chose not to cover them completely, but left a few peeks of metal showing for a more vintage industrial look.

I added 3 screw eyes onto the bottom of the chalkboard for the light covers to hang on. They worked out perfectly!

Because there is an opening at the top of the light covers, I cut out a piece of cardboard to seal the opening so the items don’t fall out! And now Miss E had a little matching Chalkboard Desk Station for her new room!

Are you ready for some more chalkboard projects? Just check out all of these from some of my friends.

Taryn, you never cease to amaze me with your projects! Love how you uniquely & subtly tied this piece in with Miss E’s vintage typewriter desk. They are 2 cute, timeless pieces she can have as she continues to grow!! So thoughtful :)

Your project turned out amazing! Love it! My favorite thing about back to school is getting to shop with my little ones and seeing how big they are getting.

I love the way my children learn new things and I also love it that they get to see their friends again. My fave though would have to be buying school supplies!!!! I love shopping in general :) And, you get a little break and get to run errands and clean the house, and possibly find two minutes to relax.

One of the best things about back to school is the feeling of a “new, fresh start”.

What I used to like about back to school was the little bit of free time I had until morning kindergarten left out. And shopping for school supplies.

I like the excitement of hearing about the new class and friends. My daughter sharing what she learned or read at school.

I love my daughter’s fascination with whiteboards. She was adamant about getting one this year because she wants to grow up to be a teacher, so I got DrawTpaint and painted two of the walls in her playroom. She’s having a blast with it!
