Baby Ruffle Skirt and Headband

Thanks For Sharing!

Welcome back to another day in our Baby Shower Theme Week! Today, I’m sharing another tutorial for a baby gift I recently gave a friend who is having a little girl any day now! There is just something special about having a daughter, it’s beyond words for me. I honestly had no idea how much I could love a little human being and I get SO excited for my friends who are about to become a mom for the first time.

Here is the little baby ruffle skirt and matching headband I made for my friend’s new bundle of joy. I actually loved it so much that I ended up making one for Baby E! (From the picture it almost looks like a high waisted skirt and a swim suit top, gosh that would be cute too!)

I don’t have exact sizing, but I think this will fall somewhere around 0-3 months.

So let’s get started shall we?

I’ve seen this ruffle fabric all over the place lately. It’s fairly new and taking the craft world by storm. The ruffles are already made for you and the fabric comes in so many beautiful colors. I will warn you it can be a bit pricey, like way more than I would EVER spend on fabric. But since I was able to make 2 skirts from 1/4 yard, I was ok with it.

Start by placing the right sides of the fabric together and lining up the stripes. I made mine about 9″ wide initially (you will want to make this bigger for a larger size).

Angle the side seams so they slowly narrow to the top. The waist should be around 6-7″.

Sew your side seams (pictured above). I used my serger but you could use a standard straight stitch as well. Just make sure your setting are adjusted for a stretch fabric. You will want to cut the skirt to your desired length. And no hemming necessary with this fabric!

For the final steps, I cut a waistband from some adorable black and white polka dot elastic and top stitched it onto the waist.

I made the headband from some of the skirt scraps. I had every intention of making a flower for the headband but when I stumbled above this already made one that was PERFECT I couldn’t resist.

The is a simple little outfit that takes a short amount of time to make and looks ADORABLE!

I’m also scheming up a matching onsie to go with the skirt and headband, so stay tuned :)

Hi Anna, I purchased the fabric at my local craft store, Ben Franklin. I’ve also seen it on Amazon, just search ‘ruffle fabric knit’. Hope this helps!

I have been admiring this ruffled fabric at Hobby Lobby for awhile now. I think I will use my 40% off coupon this week and finally purchase some. I hope I can find the cute elastic or something similar.
