Picking Out A Chandelier For The Kitchen

About 8 months ago we moved into our dream home and it has been so much fun making it our own! It truly doesn’t even feel real most of the time. When we started looking for a new home, I honestly didn’t think we would ever find a brand new home that fit our style. Our plan was to build or do a total gut job on an auction house. To my surprise, I couldn’t believe it when we found a home that had almost everything we were looking for: dark hardwoods, gray walls and a white kitchen with a modern rustic feel. Sold!

There is just one tiny thing about the house that I haven’t gelled with. The light fixtures. They just aren’t my style. I don’t dislike them, I think they are beautiful and go well with the house, but I also want our HOME to represent us and also be cohesive. So it’s my mission to gradually switch out all the light fixtures, starting with our kitchen. And I need your help!

Gray and White KitchenOur family room is straight across from the kitchen in one big open space, and we have the most industrial chic table being finished for our dining area. The goal is to find something that marry the style of the kitchen with a more industrial look.

Here are a few top contenders… What is your favorite? Or do you have another idea?

I really like how this Crystal Chandelier blends the bronze farmhouse look with the glam. I has a Restoration Hardware look but a fraction of the cost! I think it would help blend some of the finishes in our downstairs.

Then there is this Mirrored Orb Chandelier from Pottery Barn. I’ve been wanting to put one in our house somewhere, maybe this would be the perfect place!

I’ve also thought about going an entirely different route, omitting all the crystals and going with a more modern look with this Bubble Glass Chandelier with Edison bulbs. I would just need to find it at a MUCH cheaper price or DIY it.

The family room has a lot of oil rubbed bronze pieces in it, so maybe this fixture would help tie things together as well? Or would it be too dark? Oh decisions, decisions!

Help! Which would you choose?

Industrial Farmhouse Lighting Options

A. Oil Rubbed Bronze B. Mirrored Orb Chandelier C. Crystal Chandelier D. Bubble Glass Chandelier

I have an idea for you! I just installed 3 of these above my island and they are phenomenal….the style is what I’d call rustic glamorous, it marries those 2 styles perfectly. Also, I added a custom finish by attaching the 3 light fixtures to a wood board I beat up/distressed – and then that board is btwn the fixtures and the ceiling…looks just amazing. These: http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Dark-Brown-4-light-Crystal-Pendant/5972139/product.html

Wish I could attach a pic of what 3 look like together, but no way to do it.

I’m SO glad you posted this! I saw this light on eBay while browsing for lights but couldn’t find a link to a store front or more pictures. This is such a gorgeous light, I bet they look amazing the way you described it.

A is the best…..it also would be a difference from all of the right angles in the kitchen with something round!

I am in the process of switching out light fixtures in our home also! I vote for ‘B’ but I think you should choose the one that makes you happy! :) (if you can figure out which one that is! :)

I like all of your options but just wondering – have considered any rectangular ones? I think rectangular would be more cohesive with the rectangle detail on the ceiling. Or 3 pendant lights that fill the rectangular space.
I look forward to seeing your choice and good luck!

I’m going through the same dilemma. Are you going to put lighting over your dining table? I think that is a big factor. Otherwise, I love them all, except for D. Good luck.

Comments OUTDOOR for all the info on our backyard Comments OUTDOOR for all the info on our backyard furniture and decor! Unfortunately, when I get an idea I can’t stop until it’s done 😉. I got an itch to swap out our three chaise lounges for a large U-Shape sectional to create more seating and lounging poolside. I knew there was only one brand who could make this happen… I worked with @polywood to design a sectional that would be a complete custom fit for this little nook. I used the Braxton 6 Seat Sectional and added additional modular seats to get this look. I LOVE how it turned out! They can make anything happen!

POLYWOOD outdoor furniture is made out of recycled plastics, making it durable in all weather climates. They also have a 20 year warranty.

POV: working with what you have and creating somet POV: working with what you have and creating something completely new! I kept all the original flooring, cabinets, backsplash and fixtures and did only cosmetic updates to update this space. I wanted to add more contrast, character, warmth and texture. By smoothing out the texture of the walls it instantly gave it an updated look, the new paint color added contrast, the wood ceiling added warmth and texture and all the antiques and vintage pieces gave it the charm. 🖤
