DIY Magnets Using Mod Melts

Disclaimer: This post is sponsored by Plaid Crafts.

Happy Monday! How was everyone’s weekend? I recently had the opportunity to try out the new Mod Podge Mod Melts  by Plaid Crafts and they are SO much fun! There are so many things you can do with them, I seriously can’t get over the possibilities. Just take a look at all of the projects at the end of this post.

As most of of you know, I’m in the middle of designing a new ‘big girl’ space for my 2 year old daughter so almost everything I do these days is for her room! I decided to use these adorable little mod melts to make DIY Magnets for her little desk space.

There are several different molds you can choose from, I got this adorable nature set that includes several birds, nests and a little owl. SO cute. They totally fit my style. I paired the molds with Mod Podge Paper to create these fun DIY Magnets.

Supplies needed for this project:

– Mod Podge Mod Melts Kit that includes mold and glue

– Basic Mod Podge

– Hot Glue Gun

– Plaid Azure Blue, Black and White Paint

– Scissors or X-acto Knife

– Mod Podgeable Paper

– Chipboard

– Magnet Paper

Mod Melts Tutorial 1

Start by putting the Mod Melts Glue Sticks into your hot glue gun. I had to heat mine up first and then push out all remaining regular glue. Then fill the Mod Melts Molds with the glue. Try to move the glue around to really get into the crevices and try not to overfill. Wait until the glue is dry and them pop out the molds. You’ll see that mine had some rough edges so I used a combo of scissors and an X-acto knife to trim away the excess.

I loved the colors that came in my goodie box, so I chose to use them. I dabbed a little onto the sponge that was included and then gave each mold a few coats of paint. I found that the sponge worked well with less complex molds, but I had to use a tiny paint brush to really get inside the cracks of some of the more detailed ones.

To create my magnets, I cut out Mod Podge Scrapbooking Paper, Chipboard and Magnet paper using my craft cutting machine.

Then I glued them together using Mod Podge.
