So the other day I was perusing through one of my favorite stores, non other than the Dollar Tree when I came across these cans of Pirouline Chocolate Wafers and my mouth began to water. Oh how I miss them! You see, these used to be one of my VERY favorite things to eat during the holidays and then 2.5 years ago I found out I was gluten-intolerant so no more rolled chocolate wafers for me! I stood there staring at all of these cans of goodness and then IT came to me…If I can’t eat these little pieces of heaven then I am going to decorate with them! And a whole can for $1? I couldn’t pass that up.
SO that in a nutshell is how I got my inspiration for this project, standing in the middle of the dollar store and day dreaming about food. I know, really glamorous! But in all seriousness, I get a lot of my inspiration from the dollar store. Since I don’t have a big craft store near by (I live out in the hicks) and the small local craft store is a bit pricey, I always head straight for the dollar store whenever I need to gather some inspiration. I will tell you this, NOT all dollar stores are the same though! I LOVE the Dollar Tree stores because they have fabulous inventory and tons of home decor. There is always something to be inspired by there. And I’ll let you in on a little secret, MOST of my holiday decor this year is all from the dollar store :)
And I digress. Here is what you are waiting for… My editable candle display.
They look delicious don’t they? I’m so glad I get to enjoy my artisan rolled chocolate wafers again this year, even if I’m not actually eating them :)
I incorporated the pine cones and jute into the display to go with my rustic Christmas theme.
How To:
If you are intrigued on how to make these, here is a quick tutorial.
Here’s what you need:
- 6 cans of artisan rolled chocolate wafers. You can find these at the Dollar Tree for $1 a can. ( I know only 3 cans are pictured below, but I ended up using about 5 1/2 cans)
- 3 cylinder vases. You can find these at the Dollar Tree for $1 a piece.
- 3 disk-shaped candles. I had some left over from our wedding, but you should be able to find them just about any where.
- 60″ of jute
To assemble the candles, begin by standing each cookie vertically into the cylinder vase. Repeat until they are snug into the vase. Mine fit perfectly in the vase and were so snug that I didn’t have to use any glue. Once you are finished place the candle directly on top.
I placed my candles onto a silver tray I found around the house and then added some pine cones (also from the Dollar Tree) because I’m a big fan of using natural elements in just all of my projects.
Once I placed the candles on top, I wasn’t happy with the seam between the cookies and the candles so I wrapped some jute around the vases to add a little decoration. MUCH better! Whew.

I love the way this looks – unfortunately I don’t have enough self control to attempt this! I’m afraid i would sneak one every time I passed by – by the end of the day they’d just be plain candles!
This looks so cute! I wonder how well the wafers will hold up? Or do you plan to trade them out?
We’ll see how they hold up! I’ll probably have to switch them out after the season is over.

These are VERY clever. I love how the wafers blend so nicely with the pine cones. I’m a big fan of natural decor too. My son LOVES those cookies, I suspect they would slowly disappear as the season progressed. :)

Thank you for this!!! These are beautiful & simple. This gave me the idea to use cinnamon sticks in place of the cookies for a longer lasting candle and a slightly different look! You can get the cinnamon sticks from the Dollar Tree as well!!!
